Plan for: Thanksgiving | Advent | Christmas
Encourages believers to live, shine, and leave a Christ-centered legacy, reflecting God's glory and drawing others closer to Him.
Good morning, beloved family of God. It is a joy to stand before you today, to share in the grace and love that our Heavenly Father has so abundantly given us, and to delve into the deep wisdom of His Word. The Apostle Paul, in his profound wisdom and divine inspiration, has left us a powerful message in his letter to the Philippians, a message that carries a timeless relevance for all of us.
Today, we turn our hearts and minds to Philippians 4:9, which reads:
"Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you."
This potent verse, so rich in meaning, beckons us to reflect upon the legacy we are living, the light we are emitting, and the legacy we will ultimately leave behind.
To truly understand the essence of the legacy of Christ, we must first look at His life. His life was a testament of love, sacrifice, and service. He loved unconditionally, He sacrificed willingly, and He served selflessly. These are the qualities that we, as His followers, are called to embody in our own lives.
Love: This is the cornerstone of Christ's legacy. He loved without boundaries, without conditions, and without exceptions. He loved the sinners and the saints, the rich and the poor, the powerful and the weak. His love was not confined by societal norms or cultural biases. It was a love that transcended all barriers and reached out to all people. This is the kind of love we are called to emulate. A love that is not confined by our own prejudices or fears, but one that reaches out to all people, regardless of their race, religion, or social status.
Sacrifice: He willingly gave up His life for the salvation of mankind. He bore the weight of our sins and paid the ultimate price so that we could be redeemed. This is the kind of sacrifice we are called to make. Not necessarily a physical sacrifice, but a spiritual one. A sacrifice of our own desires and ambitions for the greater good. A sacrifice of our time and resources to help those in need. A sacrifice of our comfort and convenience to serve others.
Service: He served with humility and compassion, always putting the needs of others before His own. He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and comforted the distressed. His service was not motivated by personal gain or recognition, but by genuine love and concern for others. This is the kind of service we are called to offer. A service that is not motivated by selfish ambitions or personal gain, but by genuine love and concern for others.
Now, let's look at how we can apply these aspects of Christ's legacy in our own lives.
Firstly: We must strive to love as Christ loved. This means loving without conditions, without exceptions, and without prejudices. It means loving those who are different from us, those who have wronged us, and even those who are difficult to love. It means showing kindness and compassion to all people, regardless of their race, religion, or social status.
Secondly: We must be willing to make sacrifices as Christ did. This does not necessarily mean giving up our lives, but it does mean giving up our own desires and ambitions for the greater good. It means sacrificing our time and resources to help those in need. It means stepping out of our comfort zones to serve others.
Thirdly: We must serve as Christ served. This means serving with humility and compassion, always putting the needs of others before our own. It means using our talents and resources to make a positive impact in the lives of others. It means being a beacon of hope and love in a world that is often filled with despair and hatred.
Fourthly: We must strive to live out Christ's legacy in our daily lives. This means embodying His teachings in our thoughts, words, and actions. It means striving to be more like Him in all that we do. It means letting His light shine through us, so that others may see His love and grace in us.
Not an easy task: It requires commitment, sacrifice, and perseverance. But it is a task that we, as His followers, are called to undertake. And with His guidance and grace, it is a task that we can accomplish.
