INTRODUCTION:

The story in Acts 3 reveals the transforming power in the name of Jesus. A man who had been lame from birth, helpless and dependent on others, encountered the apostles Peter and John at the temple gate. What human effort could not accomplish for years was instantly done through faith in the name of Jesus Christ.

The name of Jesus is not an ordinary name; it embodies His person, authority, and divine nature. Every time the name of Jesus is declared in faith, heaven responds and miracles are released. It is the name above all names—higher than sickness, poverty, fear, or demonic oppression.

Today, many believers underestimate the authority given to them in that name. The Church must rediscover the power vested in the name of Jesus and use it boldly to heal, deliver, and change lives. When we invoke His name with faith and understanding, every lame situation: spiritually, physically, or emotionally, will rise and walk again.

1. THE NAME OF JESUS CARRIES DIVINE AUTHORITY

The name of Jesus is not a mere label; it represents the fullness of His power and the authority of heaven on earth.

a) The exalted name of Jesus (Philippians 2:9-10)

God highly exalted Jesus and gave Him a name above every other name. This name commands honour and obedience from all powers in heaven, on earth, and under the earth.

b) His name is backed by divine approval (Matthew 28:18)

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Jesus. Therefore, His name carries the full weight of God’s kingdom power.

c) The name represents His finished work (John 19:30)

Through His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated sin, sickness, and Satan. His name embodies that victory.

d) Faith in His name activates miracles (Acts 3:16)

Peter declared that the man was healed through faith in the name of Jesus. The power is released when the name is spoken in faith.

Biblical Example: The centurion in Matthew 8:5-10 recognised Jesus’ authority, and by his faith in that authority, his servant was healed instantly at Jesus’ word.

2. THE NAME OF JESUS BRINGS HEALING AND RESTORATION

There is no sickness or condition beyond the power of the name of Jesus. His name restores broken lives and makes whole those who are afflicted.

a) Healing is part of Christ’s redemptive work (Isaiah 53:5)

By His stripes we are healed. Every time we call upon His name, we access the healing provided on the cross.

b) The name heals both body and soul (Psalm 103:2-3)

The Lord forgives all iniquities and heals all diseases; there is no limit to His healing power.

c) Jesus’ name is the channel of divine intervention (Mark 16:17-18)

Believers are empowered to lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover through the authority in His name.

d) The name breaks every form of bondage (Luke 13:11-13)

Whatever keeps a person bound; whether physical, emotional, or spiritual, bows to the power of Jesus’ name.

Biblical Example: When Peter commanded the lame man to rise in the name of Jesus, the man leaped up, walked, and began to praise God before all (Acts 3:7-8).

3. THE NAME OF JESUS CONFRONTS AND CONQUERS SATANIC POWERS

The name of Jesus is a divine weapon that destroys the works of the devil and brings deliverance to those oppressed by evil.

a) Demons recognise and fear His name (Luke 10:17)

The disciples returned rejoicing, saying that even demons submitted to them in Jesus’ name. Hell trembles at the mention of that name.

b) His name breaks every curse and oppression (Acts 16:18)

When Paul commanded the spirit of divination to come out of the slave girl in Jesus’ name, it left immediately.

c) The name of Jesus guarantees victory in warfare (Revelation 12:11)

Believers overcome the enemy by the blood of the Lamb and by declaring His name with faith.

d) The name is our refuge and strong defence (Proverbs 18:10)

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run into it and are safe.

Biblical Example: When David faced Goliath, he declared, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts,” and by that divine name, he defeated the giant (1 Samuel 17:45-50).

4. FAITH IS THE KEY TO UNLOCKING THE POWER IN HIS NAME

The name of Jesus is effective only when used with unwavering faith. The power is not in the pronunciation but in the faith of the believer who calls upon it.

a) Faith connects us to divine power (Hebrews 11:6)

Without faith, it is impossible to please God or receive from Him. Faith is the bridge between the believer and divine healing.
