Summary: Don’t coast through life hoping that staying out of trouble and occasionally doing a good deed will be enough when it counts. Stop being a “casual Christian”, and start having a relationship with the God of the universe.

I am not trying to de-Christianize anyone, but I am trying to get you all to stop for a moment and make sure that you don’t get to the end of your lives and find out that you are missing the most important thing in the world – a relationship with God. It’s ok to have good clothes, an I-Phone, and a nice car, but do you love Him? It’s great to have friends and to spend time with them, but do you spend time with God? I am glad that you stay out of trouble, and try to do the right thing. I am thrilled that you are here tonight to participate in this youth service, but do you have a serious relationship with God?

Don’t coast through life hoping that staying out of trouble and occasionally doing a good deed will be enough when it counts. Jesus once told his disciples, “Not everyone who calls out to me, “Lord! Lord!” will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, “Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast our demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.” But I will reply, “I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.”” (Matthew 7:21 – 23) Jesus said that only those who actually do the will of the Father will make it into heaven. What is God’s will? His will is that you have a serious relationship with Him.

Stop being a “casual Christian”, and start having a relationship with the God of the universe. He loves you and wants to be your friend. The sin in your life is what separates you from Him. All you have to do is to tell God you are truly sorry and ask Him to take control of your life. Live your life for Him, spend time with Him, and develop a relationship with Him. It will be the best thing – and most important thing – that you will ever do.
