Summary: The Master Potter

Jeremiah 18:1-6 The Master Potter

As we go with Jeremiah down to the potter’s house…

I. The Potter’s Project 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

A. The Material In This Project 4 And the vessel that he made of clay

The Need for the Clay, The Nature of the Clay, The Neutraliy of the Clay Rom 9:21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?

B. The Molding In This Project 3 Then I went down to the potter’s house, and, behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.

1. The Testing for the wheels

Psalms 40:2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings.

2. The Turning on the wheels

Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

Ps 17:3 Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.

3. The Transforming of the wheels - 3 behold, he wrought a work on the wheels. 4 And the vessel that he made of clay

The clay is not doing it. The potter is doing it.

(1 Thess 5:24) Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.

II. The Potter’s Problem 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter:

A. The Revelation Of The Problem – The Clay Was Marred

“marred” means to be spoiled, to be injured, or even to be ruined.

B. The Reproach Of The Problem 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter:

C. The Response To The Problem 4 so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

1. The Concept Involved In “Making It Again”

The word “made” is the same as “wrought” and it means to do it again

2. The Compassion Involved In “Making It Again”

III. The Potter’s Purpose 4 so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

A. The Vessel’s Function

1. So That It Is A Unique Vessel - “another” continuing the previous work.

2. So That It Is A Useable Vessel

B. The Vessel’s Formation

1. It is A Good Work 4 as seemed good to the potter to make it.

Have Thine own way, Lord! Have Thine own way! Thou art the Potter, I am the clay.

Mold me and make me after Thy will, While I am waiting, yielded and still.

2. It is A Glad Work

IV. The Potter’s Performance 4 so he made it again another vessel, as seemed good to the potter to make it.

I. Mark The Potter - A. He's Self - existent B. Omniscient C. Omnipresent D. Omnipotent

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,

His power no boundary known unto men;

For out of His infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, & giveth, & giveth again

II. Mark The Potter's Plan

A. Personal Plan - Psalm 32:8, "I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go; I will guide thee with Mine eye."

B. Purposeful Plan

C. Profitable Plan - Joshua 1:8, "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success."

D. Persistent Plan - Isa 58:11 "And the Lord shall guide Thee continually."

III. Mark The Potter's Pain 4 And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter:

IV. Mark The Potter's Patience 4 so he made it again another vessel

V. Mark The Potter's Prize 5 Then the word of the LORD came to me, saying, 6 O house of Israel, cannot I do with you as this potter? saith the LORD. Behold, as the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are ye in mine hand, O house of Israel.
