The Master's Plan
Contributed by David Tack on Apr 23, 2024 (message contributor)
Summary: Notice all the I’s and you’s in these 4 verses! This is a very personal and heartfelt message that Jesus leaves for his anxious disciples as Jesus prepares to carry the cross and make an atoning sacrifice for the sins of the world!
• 1 Corinthians 2:9: But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.
VERSE 3: And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. I will come again. This was the whole purpose of Jesus’ leaving; that He may “come again.”
• This is in more than one sense: He is speaking of the (1) indwelling- In Christ (2 Cor 5:17- [in Christ- New Creature]; sealed with the Holy Spirit of Promise [Eph 1:13: In whom ye also trusted Ephesians …ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise]; (2) Rapture (1 Thessalonians 4:16- 18)
o For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: (17) Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. (18) Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
? Comfort one another with these words; goes hand and hand with:
• John 13:34: … That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another
• John 14:1: Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
VERSE 4: And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
• Spurgeon's Take....
"To us, sensations such as our Lord endured would have been insupportable, and kind unconsciousness would have come to our rescue; but in his case, he was wounded, and felt the sword; he drained the cup and tasted every drop .... As we kneel before our now ascended Savior’s throne, let us remember well the way by which he prepared it as a throne of grace for us; let us in spirit drink of his cup, that we may be strengthened for our hour of heaviness whenever it may come" (Spurgeon Devotional, April 11).
• If we were to continue to John 14:6, Jesus tells the disciples (as well as us) that He is The way. John 14:6: … “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by
me.”
