THE MAGNIFICATION OF CLASSIFICATION

I CORINTHIANS 2:14-3:1

INTRODUCTION: We live in a day of classifications. It is done from the military to the school system to denominations. Classification is important. It is the starting point in our understanding of the journey of faith. You can’t get to where you ought to be until you recognize where you are. God’s word shows us where we are. It is God’s roadmap to maturity.

Here’s an old Adrian Rogers outline that I once borrowed.

I. The Natural Man (2:14)

He is:

A. Born into the natural world.

B. Blind to the spiritual world.

C. Bound to the material world.

II. The Spiritual Man (2:15)

He:

A. Lives by the spirit (v.12)

B. Learns from the spirit (12-14)

C. Liberated through the spirit (15-16)

III. The Carnal Man (3:1)

The Carnal Christian is:

A. Deformed (v.1)

B. Dependent (v.2)

C. Divisive (v.3)
