This sermon aims to unpack the three profound truths about the Holy Spirit - its power, guidance, and comfort - as encapsulated in Romans 8:14.

Introduction

Good morning, family! Today, we're diving deep into the magnificent book of Romans and specifically, we're focusing on Romans 8:14, which says, "For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God." We'll unpack today: The Power of the Holy Spirit, The Guidance of the Holy Spirit, and The Comfort of the Holy Spirit.

The great evangelist D.L. Moody once said, "I believe firmly that the moment our hearts are emptied of pride and selfishness and ambition and everything that is contrary to God's law, the Holy Spirit will fill every corner of our hearts." This quote perfectly aligns with what we're discussing today.

Let's bow our heads and open our hearts in prayer.

Dear Lord, we thank you for the gift of your Word. Open our eyes, ears, and hearts today to truly understand the power, guidance, and comfort of your Holy Spirit. Strengthen us, lead us, and comfort us as we delve into your Word. In Jesus' name, we pray, Amen.

The Power of the Holy Spirit

When we speak of the Power of the Holy Spirit, we are referring to the divine energy and authority that God has given to us. This power is not something that we possess on our own, but it is a gift from God. It is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, that parted the Red Sea, and that created the universe. This power is not meant to be kept hidden or unused, but it is given to us so that we can live a life that is victorious and impactful.

The Power of the Holy Spirit is transformative. It changes us from the inside out. It takes our brokenness, our weaknesses, and our failures, and it turns them into strengths. It takes our fears and doubts, and it turns them into faith and confidence. It takes our sins and mistakes, and it turns them into opportunities for growth and learning. This transformative power is not something that we can achieve on our own, but it is the work of the Holy Spirit within us.

The Power of the Holy Spirit is also enabling. It equips us with the abilities and the resources that we need to fulfill God's purposes for our lives. It gives us the wisdom to make the right decisions, the courage to stand up for what is right, and the strength to persevere in the face of adversity. It gives us the ability to love unconditionally, to forgive unreservedly, and to serve selflessly. This enabling power is not something that we can generate on our own, but it is the result of the Holy Spirit working in and through us.

The Power of the Holy Spirit is also convicting. It confronts us with the truth about ourselves and about our relationship with God. It reveals to us our sins and our need for repentance. It challenges us to turn away from our sinful ways and to turn towards God. It pushes us to strive for holiness and righteousness. This convicting power is not something that we can ignore or resist, but it is the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to our hearts.
