Can a fish live out of water?

(Some fish can survive for up to several days and can breathe air or just absorb it through their skin)

Can a person get younger instead of older?

Can you breathe through your toes?

Can you fly with your arms – without an aeroplane?

Can you turn your head all the way around 360 degrees?

You know that God did the impossible by raising his son Jesus from the dead to live again.

That is what we celebrate today on Easter Sunday that Jesus is risen that Jesus lives.

It's important we think about what happened at Easter and understand that God can do both the possible and the impossible.

Let me read to you what happened from Luke 24

Luke 24:1-12 (New International Version)

Very early on Sunday morning the women went to the tomb, taking the spices they had prepared. 2They found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance. 3So they went in, but they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus. 4As they stood there puzzled, two men suddenly appeared to them, clothed in dazzling robes.

5The women were terrified and bowed with their faces to the ground. Then the men asked, “Why are you looking among the dead for someone who is alive? 6He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead! Remember what He told you back in Galilee, 7that the Son of Man must be betrayed into the hands of sinful men and be crucified, and that He would rise again on the third day.”

8Then they remembered that He had said this. 9So they rushed back from the tomb to tell His eleven disciples—and everyone else—what had happened. 10It was Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Mary the mother of James, and several other women who told the apostles what had happened. 11But the story sounded like nonsense to the men, so they didn’t believe it. 12However, Peter jumped up and ran to the tomb to look. Stooping, he peered in and saw the empty linen wrappings; then he went home again, wondering what had happened.

Our God is the God of the possible and the impossible. We all need to take the time to think about who He is & what He means to us

*** NARRATIVE OF VIDEO ***

He was dead, and with Him died all of their dreams, all of their hopes,

everything they believed in.

They had given everything to Him,

their past, their present even their future

up until three days ago it seemed so good.

All He had wanted was everything

and they gave it.

All He had asked was that they believe

and oh how they had believed.

They had seen the impossible,

they had seen blind men see,

they had seen lame men walk,

and they had seen dead men live.

They had believed with all their hearts,

but not any more,

now their beliefs were as dead as their master.

There was nothing left to do but go home,

to leave Jerusalem, to leave their hopes,

to leave their dreams and just go home.

They might as well try and recover their yesterdays

because their tomorrows were as dead as Jesus.

They had seen Him beaten,

they seen Him crucified,

they had seen Him killed

they had seen Him buried

they thought the dream was as dead as the dreamer.

Unless,

unless it was true what Mary had seen,

she had seen an empty tomb,

she had seen empty grave clothes

she had seen Jesus.

If that was true...

then He wasn’t dead He was alive.

If He was alive than everything was going to be all right.

Easter Sunday is not about celebrating Jesus crucifixion - it’s about celebrating Jesus resurrection,

Our focus today is not death it’s life.

Today Easter Sunday, Resurrection Sunday is not about mourning it’s about celebrating.

The first Easter morning 2000 years ago must have began with sadness.

I can imagine the followers of Jesus waking up and remembering what had happened,

remembering the horror of Friday,

remembering that their friend was dead and thinking their dreams were shattered.

But then a shout, He’s alive, the tomb is empty.

And then, it happened, in the blink of an eye,

they weren’t mourning Jesus death

they were celebrating Jesus being alive.

It wasn’t defeat it was victory.

Because Jesus wasn’t dead He was alive and the tomb was empty.

We know from history that on the third day the body of Christ was missing from the tomb.

So where was it?

We believe the same as the early church did,

that Christ rose from the dead,

there was actually a physical resurrection.
