The Illogical Fear Of Elijah - 1 Kings 19:3

1 Kings 19:3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life; he took his servant and went to Beersheba in Judah. Leaving the servant there,

What made fear of Elijah illogical?

I. After killing 450 prophets of baal (1Kings 18:40, 1Kings 18:22 )

II. After sending fire to the offering (1Ki 18:38)

III. After sending rain (1 Kings 18:44)

IV. After outranning a chariot (1Ki 18:46)

V. He only feared 1 woman (1 Kings 19:3)

Oh man or servant of God, God might have done countless miracles in your lifetime, but still you are afraid? (2 Timothy 1:7) It's a command for us, stay away of fear. Instead of fear, God replaced it with three (a) power, (b) love and (c) self-control

I. After Killing 450 prophets of baal (1Kings 18:40, 1Kings 18:22 )

1Kings 18:40 Elijah ordered, "Seize the prophets of Baal; don't let any of them get away!" The people seized them all, and Elijah led them down to Kishon Brook and killed them.

1Kings 18:22 Then Elijah said, "I am the only prophet of the LORD still left, but there are 450 prophets of Baal.

God's promises are the same yesterday, today and forever. God has given us His power not fear.

A promise in the New Testament effective in the Old Testament. Promised already before it was ever written. Elijah must have been a very powerful Man of God.

II. After sending fire to the offering (1Ki 18:38)

Prior to this, he already killed by burning 102 people (2 captains and 200 military, fighting men) without lifting a finger. (2 Kings 1:9-14)

1Ki 18:38 The LORD sent fire down, and it burned up the sacrifice, the wood, and the stones, scorched the earth and dried up the water in the trench.

Elijah is living in love all the time, for He's with God. Remember God is love. (but not vice versa) The offering needed to burn in God's front, so he sent out fire, actually he called from God and God confirmed His acceptance of the offering of Elijah

III. After sending rain (1 Kings 18:44)

1 Kings 18:44 The seventh time he returned and said, "I saw a little cloud no bigger than a man's hand, coming up from the sea." Elijah ordered his servant, "Go to King Ahab and tell him to get in his chariot and go back home before the rain stops him."

As I've told you, Elijah is a man walking in love, He enjoyed walking with God in love. Without rain, man will usually die after drought, so he called to God to provide rain.

IV. After outranning a chariot (1Ki 18:46)

In those days, there are no cars, no vehicles, and with just his feet, he outran cars, and trains of his day.

1Ki 18:46 The power of the LORD came on Elijah; he fastened his clothes tight around his waist and ran ahead of Ahab all the way to Jezreel.

Yes, without a doubt, Elijah is a very powerful Man of God.

V. He only feared 1 woman (1 Kings 19:3)

1 Kings 19:3 Elijah was afraid and fled for his life; he took his servant and went to Beersheba in Judah. Leaving the servant there,

Let us sum it all up, Elijah is a Man of God who's very brave,

(1) not afraid of 450 false prophets of baal

(2) can send fire at will

(3) can send rain at will

(4) fast runner, can outran chariot

(5) but feared 1 woman

The third one is self-control. How come Elijah completed power, and love but failed in self-control?

Come on now, the very same reason why most Man of God falls, is without self-control. His power to pray, read God's Words, to perform miracles is present, He's doing this all in love, to get them to be saved, but he failed in his self-control.
