Summary: This sermon shows how Jesus owns the church, ownership is seen in three ways
The House of Jesus Christ
Hebrews 3:6
During the earthly ministry of Jesus, He had no house to call His own. – Luke 9:58
As He was growing up as a lad, Joseph provided a house for Him
His Heavenly Father had a house waiting for Him when He left this world.
Jesus even had to be laid in a borrowed tomb!
Jesus did not have a house to call His own…There was no house that belonged to Him!
Here the writer of Hebrews is speaking of a house that belongs to Jesus… (Pause)
The church!
In God’s word we are going to see three ways that someone can own a house….and thereby see how Jesus Christ owns the church.
Christ owns the church by…
I. Purchase—I Corinthians 6:20
Jesus bought His church
II. Production—Matthew 16:18
Jesus is building His church
III. Virtue of a will—John 17:6
The church was a gift from His Heavenly Father
Conclusion:
Today, we have seen that there is a house that Jesus owns…The church! He owns it in three ways He bought it, He built it, and it was a gift from His Father
Jesus bought us with His life, death and resurrection. He is building a home for the church in heaven. We have been given to Jesus by our Heavenly Father
I want us to remember this as we go through the week!
Homecoming is next Sunday and as we go through this week, I want you to think about homecoming and what it truly means.
Jesus bought you with a great price, live like it!
