Explore the life of Moses as an example of living a life of faith, trusting in God's promises, and making courageous decisions based on that faith.
Good morning, family!
Today, we're diving deep into the life of Moses, a man of great faith and courageous decisions, as outlined in Hebrews 11:23-29. We'll be talking about Moses' faith in God's promises, the power of trusting God, and the difficult choices we sometimes have to make with faith.
In the words of A.W. Tozer, "Faith, as Paul saw it, was a living, flaming thing leading to surrender and obedience to the commandments of Christ." Just like Moses, we are called to a living, flaming faith that leads us to surrender and obedience.
Let's turn our Bibles to Hebrews 11:23-29:
"By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, choosing rather to endure ill-treatment with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, considering the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures of Egypt; for he was looking to the reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured, as seeing Him who is unseen. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of the blood, so that he who destroyed the firstborn would not touch them. By faith they passed through the Red Sea as though they were passing through dry land; and the Egyptians, when they attempted it, were drowned."
The Bible tells us that Moses was a man of great faith, who trusted God's promises even when circumstances seemed impossible. His faith was not a passive acceptance of God's will, but an active trust that moved him to make difficult decisions and take bold actions.
His upbringing: When Moses was born, his parents hid him for three months to protect him from the Pharaoh's decree to kill all Hebrew baby boys. They trusted God's promise to protect and deliver His people. Their faith was rewarded when Pharaoh's daughter found Moses and raised him as her own, providing him with the best of Egypt's education and resources. This was the first instance where Moses' life was marked by faith in God's promises.
Growing up: As Moses grew older, he made a life-changing decision. He chose to identify with his Hebrew heritage and reject the privileges of his Egyptian upbringing. This decision was driven by his faith in God's promises to His people. Moses believed that God would deliver the Israelites from their oppression in Egypt and lead them to a land flowing with milk and honey. He chose to endure ill-treatment with the people of God rather than enjoy the passing pleasures of sin. This decision was a testament to his faith in God's promises, even when they seemed far from reality.
Evident in his leadership of the Israelites: He led them out of Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king. He trusted God's promise to protect and deliver His people. Even when they were trapped between the Red Sea and Pharaoh's advancing army, Moses trusted God's promise. He told the people, "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today." And indeed, God parted the Red Sea, allowing the Israelites to cross on dry ground.
Living in light of those promises: He made decisions and took actions based on his faith in God's promises. He chose to align himself with the oppressed Israelites, he led them out of Egypt, and he stood firm before the Red Sea because he believed in God's promises.
A lifelong journey: From his birth to his leadership of the Israelites, Moses' life was marked by faith in God's promises. His faith was tested and refined through trials and challenges, but he remained steadfast, trusting in God's promises.
An example for us today: We may not face the same challenges as Moses, but we all face situations where we need to trust God's promises. Whether it's a difficult decision, a challenging circumstance, or a daunting task, we can look to Moses' example of faith in God's promises.
Trusting God is not about a passive acceptance of circumstances, but an active, dynamic, and sometimes challenging engagement with the divine will ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
