Summary: Spiritual insights from a family vacation
You men would be surprised at how eager our families are to follow if we will just provide a little leadership. In single parent families – it may be up to the mom – but, for heaven’s sake!, somebody lead our families. Make devotions happen. Make church happen. Make Bible study happen. Our babes need it.
2. The Beach. The beach was wonderful. We only had to cross the street and walk a hundred yards to get to a parking lot of a beach. Each day was wonderful. Each day was warm, the water was cold, the air was clear. The kids had fun trying to body surf in the cold water. It was more like jumping up and down in the surf. The built sand castles, got buried in the sand, and made their own adventure.
Here’s a picture of Nate on the “path to nowhere”. Somebody apparently had a rake and walked along the beach dragging it. Nate saw it as a little road just for him. He followed it around every twist and turn. But it didn’t lead anywhere.
Have you ever done that? Are you on a path that leads to nowhere? Occasionally we need to step back and assess and evaluate where we are headed. If we continue on this path – where will it lead us? If we don’t like the end result – we better do something. I don’t know what that means for you. For some it may mean a job change. For some it may mean to change something in our personality. Some may need to make a relationship change. Sometimes we get into a pattern of doing the same thing over and over – and we expect a different result. Someone defined insanity as that. “Doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results”. That’s crazy! Evaluate your life – and then make the necessary changes that will lead to different results. Results you will be happier with.
Here’s a picture of Nate with a sea weed whip. It’s a cool picture of a child taking some garbage that no one looks twice at and making a neat toy. Attitude is everything isn’t it? Do you see garbage or gold? Do you see junk or jewelry? Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Choose to see the excellent and the praiseworthy in everything. Life will be so much better if you do.
This next picture is of Breauna on a rock. Notice how high up she is. Then notice her surprise as she just about gets washed off by a high wave. The lesson from this is “Life comes at you fast – be prepared!”
Jesus said,
"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Matthew 24:42-44
Are you ready? Are you prepared? Are you living each day as it may be the day that the Lord will come? Life comes at us fast. If you are anchored in the solid Rock of Jesus – you can withstand any wave life throws at you. You can withstand any storm. But you need to be anchored BEFORE the storm hits. Many people can look out on the horizon and see a storm coming. Rising gas prices, lower real estate prices, increase in wickedness, less compassion, greater selfishness, less family unity. All these things indicate that a storm is coming. Are you ready? Get solidly anchored in Jesus or you will be swept away!
