THE GREATEST OF THEM ALL

I CORINTHIANS 13:1-13

INTRODUCTION: Paul calls us back to the basics – love. This chapter is not so much a definition of love as it is a display of love. Love is an action.

Consider this brief outline.

I. Love Is Essential (v.1-3)

A. Language without Love is Unacceptable (v.1): Love is better than talk. It’s what we do rather than what we say.

B. Learning without Love is Unapprovable (v.2): Love is greater than wisdom.

C. Lending without Love is Unrewardable (v.3)

II. Love Is Expressive (v.4-7)

A. It Possesses Certain Attributes (v.4)

B. It Performs Certain Actions (v.5)

C. It Portrays Certain Attitudes (v.6-7)

III. Love Is Eternal (v.8-13)

We live between the resurrection and the return. After His return there will be no need for gifts.

CONCLUSION: It’s still the greatest of them all. Have you received the gift of His love (Jesus)?
