THE GRASSHOPPER COMPLEX? THE BONDAGE OF A SCARECROW

Text: Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

Romans 8:15 (NLT2) So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.”

I had a dream. In the dream I saw some huge power lines. There were thousands of birds sitting on the power lines. Some of the birds were falling off the power lines. The birds were weak. Actually I could see some fell to their death due to starvation. The picture opened wider and I could see a scarecrow propped up by sticks. The birds were so afraid of the big scarecrow standing in the field. Then I saw a bigger picture. There were acres and acres of red, juicy strawberries. All the birds were afraid of the scarecrow. There was one big, fat bird landed in the middle of the field and he was eating and eating to his delight. All the others huddled in great fear. The bird was so full. He sang to the other birds: “COME AND GET IT, THERE IS NOTHING TO FEAR.” He went on to say: “THE FARMER CAN’T WATCH THE FIELD ALL THE TIME. COME AND EAT.” Another bird fell off the line starving to death. Fear stopped them from the food.

SCARECROW: an object suggesting harm to induce fear, to hinder away from valuable resources. to seem threatening but not harmful, to look scare-- to hinder growth from things that hinder growth, TO FRIGHTEN OR CAUSE FEAR, a figure designed to look like a human in old clothes to place in a field, a guardian for fields to keep birds away, insure plants grow without interference, looks menacing but lack true power.

LET US REMEMBER THE WIZARD OF OZ:

THE LION: wanted courage. THE TIN MAN: wanted a heart. THE SCARECROW: wanted a brain.

DOROTHY: want to go home.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

THE WIZARD OF OZ WAS A LITTLE MAN HIDING BEHIND A CURTAIN. He could not do anything to help. They had the power within all along.

REMEMBER CHICKEN LITTLE?

Isaiah 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not.

Isaiah 66:4 (NLT2) I will send them great trouble— all the things they feared. For when I called, they did not answer. When I spoke, they did not listen. They deliberately sinned before my very eyes and chose to do what they know I despise.”

The little chicken was playing under an oak tree. All of a sudden an ACORN fell out of the tree and hit chicken little in the head. Chicken Little STARTED RUNNING AND SCREAMING THE SKY WAS FALLING IN…Chicken Little delusion caused fear and panic to breed in the hen yard.

OUR ENEMY USES FEAR TO HINDER GOD’S PLANS IN OUR FAMILIES.

Fear kills FAITH, salvation, the move of the Holy Spirit, real worship at church, our healing.

My mom died of cancer? My aunt? Guess I will?

Matthew 6:25 Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? 26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?

FEAR BREEDS FEAR, WORRY BREEDS WORRY.

Job 3:25 For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me, and that which I was afraid of is come unto me.

Ecclesiastes 12:5 Also when they shall be afraid of that which is high, and fears shall be in the way, and the almond tree shall flourish, and the grasshopper shall be a burden, and desire shall fail: because man goeth to his long home, and the mourners go about the streets:

WHERE ARE YOU? WHY DO WE HIDE FROM GOD? SIN CAUSES FEAR.
