Preach "The King Has Come" 3-Part Series this week!
Preach Christmas week
The main point of this sermon is to explore and understand the unchanging nature, powerful protection, and faithfulness of God as revealed in Zephaniah 3:17, and how these aspects of His character impact our lives today.
Good morning, family! Today, we're going to explore the amazing truths found in the book of Zephaniah, specifically chapter 3, verse 17. This verse beautifully highlights three key aspects of God's character: His unchanging nature, the power of His protection, and the faithfulness of His people.
Before we dive in, let's hear a quote from a respected Christian author that perfectly captures the essence of this verse. A.W. Tozer once said, "What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us." Isn't that a powerful reminder of the importance of understanding and meditating on the character of our God?
Now, let's read Zephaniah 3:17 together: "The Lord your God is in your midst, a mighty one who will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness; He will quiet you by His love; He will exult over you with loud singing."
What a beautiful picture of our God! This verse tells us so much about who He is and how He interacts with His people. We serve a God who is unchanging, powerful, and faithful. And today, we're going to explore each of these aspects of His character in more depth.
Let's open with a prayer. Father, thank You for this opportunity to gather and study Your Word. Please open our hearts and minds to the truth of who You are and how You love us. Help us to grow in our understanding of Your faithfulness. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
God is unchanging … this is often referred to as His immutability. It means that He does not change in His being, His character, or His purpose. In a world that is constantly shifting and evolving, it is a great comfort to know that our God remains the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). This unchanging nature of God is a source of stability and assurance for us as we navigate the ups and downs of life.
His perfect love: Zephaniah 3:17 tells us that God "will quiet you by His love." This is a love that is not fickle or dependent on our performance. It is a love that is steadfast and unchanging, regardless of our circumstances or our actions. As believers, we can rest in the knowledge that God's love for us will never waver or diminish. In Romans 8:38-39, the Apostle Paul writes, "For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord." This incredible promise is rooted in the unchanging nature of God's love for His people.
His faithfulness: Throughout Scripture, we see countless examples of God's faithfulness to His people, even when they were unfaithful to Him. In Lamentations 3:22-23, the prophet Jeremiah writes, "Because of the Lord's great love we are not consumed, for His compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness." God's faithfulness is not dependent on our actions or our worthiness; it is an intrinsic part of His unchanging character. As believers, we can trust that God will always be faithful to His promises and to His people.
His wisdom and knowledge: In Isaiah 40:28, the prophet writes, "Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and His understanding no one can fathom." God's wisdom and knowledge are infinite and unchanging, which means that He always knows what is best for us and for His creation. We can trust that His plans and purposes will never be thwarted or derailed by the changing circumstances of our world.
His moral standards and commandments remain constant: In a world that often embraces moral relativism and shifting values, it is comforting to know that our God's standards do not change. In Psalm 119:89, the psalmist writes, "Your word, Lord, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens." God's Word is a reliable and unchanging source of truth and guidance for our lives. As believers, we can confidently build our lives on the foundation of God's unchanging Word, knowing that His commandments and principles will never lead us astray.
His sovereignty and control over all things: In Daniel 2:21, the prophet writes, "He changes times and seasons; He deposes kings and raises up others. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning." God's sovereignty means that He is in control of all events and circumstances, and His unchanging nature means that His control is constant and unwavering. As believers, we can find peace and assurance in the knowledge that our unchanging God is always in control, even when our world seems chaotic and uncertain.
