Sermons

Summary: Seasons, both spiritual and natural, are God’s idea.

Sermon Title: The God of the Seasons

Text: Genesis 8:22; Psalm 74:16–17; Ecclesiastes 3:1

Theme: God is sovereign over every natural and spiritual season, and His purposes unfold in each one.

I. God Ordained the Seasons

Key Text: Genesis 8:22

“As long as the earth endures, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter… will not cease.”

This was God’s covenant with Noah after the flood: that the world would operate under His ordered faithfulness.

Every season is a reminder of God’s promises—He brings stability to a broken world.

Psalm 74:16–17 affirms that God made summer and winter, the sun and moon—He is the author of rhythm and balance.

Illustration: Consider how farmers rely on seasons. They can’t rush spring or skip winter. Likewise, we trust God’s timing even when we don’t understand the delay.

II. God Is Present In Every Season

Key Text: Ecclesiastes 3:1

“There is an occasion for everything, and a time for every activity under heaven…”

Life has spiritual seasons—times of growth, pruning, waiting, joy, and sorrow.

Seasons change, but God remains constant in every one (Malachi 3:6).

Even hard seasons have purpose. Winter precedes spring; pruning precedes fruitfulness.

Illustration: Trees appear dead in winter, but the roots are growing deeper. In your spiritual “winters,” God may be growing something underground.

Application: Encourage your people not to despise their season, but to discern what God is doing in it.

III. God Uses Seasons to Reveal His Goodness

Key Text: Acts 14:17

“He did what is good by giving you rain from heaven and fruitful seasons…”

Seasons reveal the goodness of God to all people—rain, sun, harvest, beauty.

The predictability of seasons is a testimony of His faithful character.

Spiritually, He brings harvest after hardship, joy after mourning, purpose after pain.

Cross-reference: Jeremiah 5:24 — God sends the rains and guarantees the harvest.

Illustration: In Israel, they waited for the “early and latter rains” (Deut. 11:14). God never misses a season—His timing is perfect.

Conclusion: Jesus, the Fulfillment of All Seasons

Jesus entered the world in the fullness of time (Galatians 4:4).

His life, death, and resurrection ushered in a new season of grace.

Invite people to trust the Lord of the seasons with their current moment—He knows when it’s time to sow, reap, rest, or grow.

Optional Closing Verse: Daniel 2:21 — “He changes the times and seasons…”

He doesn’t just watch the seasons—He moves in them.
