Summary: A look at the attributes of David.
The Five Stones David Chose
1 Samuel 17
Introduction: This five part sermon is taken from the story of David and Goliath. In the story, David goes to a small brook and chooses “5 smooth stones.” We will use that to make our 5 points.
**What did it take for David to win the battle against Goliath?
1. IT TOOK COURAGE: Possible verses to use from the text.
‒ 1 Samuel 17:4-9 Goliath’s size and fierceness were intimidating.
‒ 1 Samuel 17:51 David was eager to “run” toward him.
2. IT TOOK FAITH and TRUST: Possible verses to use from the text.
‒ 1 Samuel 17:34-37 David had been protected by the Lord before.
3. IT TOOK HOPE: Hope here means confident expectation.
‒ 1 Samuel 17:45-47 David expected to win so much he told Goliath he would win.
4. IT TOOK HUMILITY:
‒ 1 Samuel 17:47 He said that the battle was the Lord’s!!
5. IT TOOK LOVE:
‒ 1 Samuel 17:45 David spoke about Goliath’s defiance of the armies of God. This showed his love for both God and His people.
