Summary: One Event – Many Hearts

🌿 The Faces in the Palm Sunday Crowd

1. Introduction: One Event – Many Hearts

My dear brothers and sisters,

On Palm Sunday, we see a beautiful and powerful scene. Jesus enters Jerusalem riding on a donkey. The crowd is shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” Palm branches are waving. Garments are spread on the road.

Everything looks joyful… everything looks united…

But in reality, the crowd was not a single entity.

It was a mixture of hearts.

Different people… with different motives… with different expectations… walking behind the same Jesus.

And today, the same is true.

Even in this congregation… even in every church… there are different kinds of people following Jesus for different reasons.

So today, let us look deeply into this crowd and discover:

👉 Who were they?

👉 Why were they following Jesus?

👉 And most importantly… where do I stand?

2. The Committed – The Surrendered Followers

The first group is the committed.

These are the people who truly loved Jesus.

They were not there for entertainment… not for benefits… not for popularity…

They were there because their lives had been changed.

Think of the disciples.

Think of Mary Magdalene.

Think of Lazarus—who was raised from the dead.

Think of Zacchaeus—whose life was transformed.

These people had experienced Jesus personally.

Their Mindset

• “He is my Lord.”

• “I will follow Him no matter what.”

• “Even if I don’t understand everything, I trust Him.”

They followed Jesus not because of the crowd…

but because of conviction.

Spiritual Truth

A committed follower:

• obeys without questioning,

• gives without hesitation,

• and follows without conditions.

Application

My dear people,

👉 Are we committed… or just present?

Do we follow Jesus only when things go well?

Or do we follow Him even when the road leads to the Cross?

Because the same crowd that shouted “Hosanna” on Sunday…

would shout “Crucify Him” on Friday.

But the committed… remained faithful.

Strong Line

👉 “Commitment is tested not in celebration, but in suffering.”

3. The Confused – The Misguided Followers

The second group is the confused.

The Bible says:

“Who is this?” (Matthew 21:10)

They were excited… but they did not understand.

Their Mindset

• “He is a prophet.”

• “Maybe He will become a king.”

• “Maybe He will change our political situation.”

They had expectations… but they were wrong expectations.

They wanted a political savior,

but Jesus came as a spiritual Savior.

Spiritual Truth

They followed Jesus…

but they did not know Him.

Application

Today also, many Christians are like this.

• They come to church…

• They pray…

• They even say “Jesus is Lord”…

But inside, they misunderstand Him.

Some see Jesus as:

• a problem-solver only,

• a miracle worker only,

• a blessing machine.

But not as Lord of their life.

Strong Line

👉 “You can walk with Jesus… and still not know who He truly is.”

4. The Pretenders – The Superficial Believers

The third group is the pretenders.

These are dangerous… because they look like believers.

Their Mindset

• “Let me be seen.”

• “Let me look religious.”

• “Let me be part of the crowd.”

But inside… no surrender.

They shouted “Hosanna”…

but their hearts were not with Jesus.

Spiritual Truth

They had:

• religion without relationship,

• appearance without authenticity.

Application

Today, many come:

• out of habit,

• out of social pressure,

• just to feel good.

They attend… but are not transformed.

They sing… but do not surrender.

Strong Line

👉 “God is not impressed by your noise… He looks at your heart.”

5. The Curious – The Spectators

The fourth group is the curious.

The Gospel tells us they came because of Lazarus.

They had heard:

👉 “This man raised the dead!”

So they came to see.

Their Mindset

• “Let’s see what happens.”

• “Maybe something exciting will occur.”

• “Let’s experience something new.”

They were emotionally excited…

but spiritually shallow.

Spiritual Truth

Curiosity brought them to Jesus…

but it did not lead them to commitment.

Application

Today also:

• some come for healing,

• some for blessings,

• some for emotional experience.

But after some time… they go away.

Because curiosity cannot sustain faith.

Strong Line

👉 “Curiosity can bring you near Jesus, but only commitment keeps you with Him.”

6. The Opposition – The Resistant Hearts

The fifth group is the opposition.

The Pharisees said:

👉 “Teacher, rebuke your disciples!” (Luke 19:39)

They were not happy.

Why?

Because Jesus threatened their control.

Their Mindset

• Pride

• Jealousy

• Fear of losing authority

They saw miracles…

but still rejected Jesus.

Spiritual Truth

The problem was not lack of evidence…

but hardness of heart.

Application

Even today:

• Some resist God’s voice.
