Summary: Our series on the vital doctrines of Holy Scripture continues as we look at the reality, power, and other characteristics of the Sovereign Lord God Almighty.

The Scriptures proclaim and assume the existence of God. It is a fact taken for granted, and to deny Him is utter nonsense (Psalm 14:1; 53:1). There is a universal belief deep within every person that a Divine, Supernatural Being exists from the external evidence of the world around us and the inner convictions that we possess. Romans 1:18-23 tells us of this work referred to as "general revelation".

This is also the foundation for the basic scientific principle of "cause and effect". Everything that began owes its existence to a cause. If there is a watch, there is a watchmaker; if there is a building, there had to be a builder, and if there is a creation, logic dictates that there must be a Creator. There is absolutely no sensible explanation for coming into existence without the work of an intelligent, personal Creator who is outside of the limits of time, space, and matter.

The earth, universe, and all scientific principles of natural law and function has to come not only from a source of what some people refer to as "Intelligent Design ", but from a Designer who is personal, compassionate, and has put this universe and its specific elements into place for a reason and with a goal set in mind for its operation, function, and inevitable conclusion having served its meaning and purpose for the Creator's satisfaction.

Along with the structure and function of the world and space, there is also the reality of law, order, moral structure and ethical behavior found within the completed work. The Creator also has the role of being the Moral Lawgiver if life is to have a sense of civility and general acceptable behavior for the successful function of a people or nation. All of these attributes are the product of an all-powerful, all-knowing, and always present First Cause that the Scriptures refer to as Almighty God.

The Scriptures describe God as "the God who loves us" (John 3:16), and that there are things which He hates (Proverbs 6:16). He cares for us (2 Peter 5:7), and He can become grieved over the sinful affairs of humanity (Genesis 6:6). Only a Personality can have these traits. He is a loving, eternal, personal Being. Whom the Bible also describes as "light" (1 John 1:5), and in Him there is no darkness. His holiness is all-consuming (Hebrews 12:29). He is the Author of Life (John 5:26), with all power, intelligence, and everywhere present (Psalm 139:7, 147:5; Revelation 19:6). This all powerful, loving God has also made it possible for you to know Him and have fellowship with Him by means of His Beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who came to this world to live among us and take upon Himself our sins and wickedness that keep us from God. His death on the cross paid our sin debt in full, and through faith in Him, asking Him to forgive us of our sins and give our lives to Him, and surrender to His will for our lives, we have the promise and certainty of eternal life with Him, free from the condemnation of sin, death, and hell (Matthew 11:28-30; John 10:28-30, 14:1-6; Roman's 5:6-11, 8:37-39).

What a wonderful promise from our Great God and Savior. We will continue our journey through the doctrines of the faith as we next look at the grace of God and His provision for our undeserved salvation.
