The Condition of Prayerlessness – Prayerlessness #1
(Taken from Andrew Murray’s The Prayer Life)
1 Thessalonians 5:17
- Without time for prayer, nothing can be accomplished. - Scroggie
- He who runs from God in the morning will scarcely find Him the rest of the day. - John Bunyan
- When asked how much time he spent in prayer, George Mueller’s reply was, “Hours every day. But I live in the spirit of prayer. I pray as I walk and when I lie down and when I arise. And the answers are always coming.” - Anon
- “If I should neglect prayer but a single day, I should lose a great deal of the fire of faith.” - Martin Luther
- “The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work and prayerless religion. He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom, but he trembles when we pray.” - Samuel Chadwick
Andrew Murray said 4 things about prayerlessness as sin:
1) it is an insult to God
not to take time for our awesome God is reproachable to Him and us
we make time for other things important to us; why not prayer?
2) it is the cause of a deficient spiritual life
prayerlessness is the sign that our souls are unhealthy
also, it is the reason we do not have a greater influence in the world
3) the church suffers when the members (and pastor) are prayerless
the church cannot rise higher than the spiritual life of the pastor
4) without prayer, it is impossible to share the gospel
whatever Christian work we do, none is as valuable as praying
