The Book of Remembrance
Study Text: Malachi 3:16–18
Introduction:
- There are times when it seems heaven is silent and man is forgotten, when prayers appear unanswered and good deeds unnoticed. Yet, our God is not unjust to forget (Hebrews 6:10).
- He keeps records which are divine, detailed, and dependable. The Book of Remembrance is God’s eternal archive of faithful service, sincere devotion, and sacrificial love.
- This message explores how God remembers, rewards, and restores those written in His heavenly record, and we shall be discussing it under three subheadings:
1. Divine Recording
2. Divine Rewarding
3. Divine Restoring
1. Divine Recording
- God is a meticulous recorder. Every act of faith, every tear shed in prayer, every unseen labour of love is captured in His heavenly chronicle.
A. The People Remembered
1. Those who fear the Lord — reverent hearts who honour His Word.
2. Those who fellowship faithfully — speaking often one to another in encouragement and truth.
B. The Process of Recording
1. God hearkens — He listens attentively.
2. God hears — He notes every utterance of faith.
3. God writes — He documents your deeds in His divine diary.
- Heaven’s pen never runs dry, and God’s files never fade!
2. Divine Rewarding
- The Book of Remembrance is not merely a record — it is a register of reward. When the time is right, God opens the book and honours His faithful ones.
A. The Timing of Remembrance
- God has a divine timing when He remembers men for His own glory and for the blessings of the man and others.
- The Scriptures is full of several examples of men and women remembered by God at their appointed time.
1. Mordecai was remembered in one night that changed his destiny.
2. Joseph was remembered from the prison to the palace.
3. Hannah was remembered, and her barrenness turned to blessing.
4. Jonah was remembered and the Lord delivered him by mercy.
5. Abraham was remembered and the Lord arranged for the preservation of Lots and his family.
6. Peter was remembered when the Church interceded for him and was delivered from death.
7. The man at the pool of Bethesda was remembered and his long awaited miracle was given in an unusual way.
B. The Testimony of Reward
1. Divine promotion replaces postponement. The example of Joseph
Divine compensation follows every commitment. The example of Hannah
Divine recognition comes after righteous living. The example of Peter
- Delay is not denial when your name is written in the Book of Remembrance.
3. Divine Restoring
- The same God who remembers is also the God who restores. When He opens the book, He brings restoration, revival, and redemption.
A. Restoration of Dignity
- He lifts forgotten lives into favour and fruitfulness. (Isaiah 49:15)
B. Revival of Destiny
- Every forgotten dream is revived when God remembers you.
- He restores wasted years, renews lost strength, and reawakens divine purpose.
C. Redemption from Death
- God does open the book of rememberance and delivers people from death before their appointed time comes, for them to live and fulfill purpose and destiny.
- Ultimately, another book — the Lamb’s Book of Life — determines our eternal remembrance. Those who are written there will reign forever with Christ.
- To be remembered by men is honour; to be remembered by God is eternity.
Conclusion:
- Beloved, when your motives are pure and your heart is steadfast, heaven takes note.
- Your name, your labour, and your love are in God’s record.
- The Book of Remembrance will be opened — and when it is, rewards will overflow, destinies will be restored, and your story will be rewritten for glory.
