Summary: ENCOURAGEMENT BY KNOWING WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN PARDONED FROM
“THE BELIEVER’S PARDON” II Peter 1:1-4
Introduction: Faith is the Foundation on which all of our Christian life rests.
1. OUR SALVATION --ROMANS 5:1; EPHESIANS 2:8
2. OUR STRENGTH--JUDE 20
3. OUR SERVICE—COLOSSIANS 2:6,7
4. OUR SECURITY—I PETER 1:5
5. OUR SUCCESS—MARK 9:23
I. THE ORIGIN OF OUR FAITH--ROMANS 10:13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! 16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
A. The Servant Must Be Sent
B. The Sermon Must Be Given
C. The Sinner Must Hear and Call
II. THE OBJECT OF OUR FAITH--I THESSALONIANS 4:14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
A. The Must of Faith-vs 14
B. The Miracle of Faith-vs 15
III. THE OPERATION OF OUR FAITH--JAMES 2:20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
A. Unseen Faith-vs 20
B. Unquestionable Faith-vs 21, 22
IV. THE OPPOSITION OF OUR FAITH--JOHN 4:48 Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.
V. THE OUTCOME OF OUR FAITH--HEBREWS 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.
CONCLUSION: WE ARE TO WALK BY FAITH---HEBREWS 10:38 Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
WHEN GOD FORGIVES, HE FORGETS
How different God’s pardon is from ours! So often we forgive as did the mother of the little girl who had been good a whole week, and asked mother for a favor. "I know," was the answer, "that you have been good all this week, but you know you were bad last week."
In a passionate burst of feeling, the little one exclaimed: "Oh, Mother, you are not one bit like God. When He forgives, He doesn’t keep throwing it up afterward."
