Summary: The angel that appeared to the shepherd told them exactly what they would see in "The City of David"

The Angelic Message

Luke 2:8-11

Intro.

Our text is verse 11

This has to be one of the most significant and

powerful statements in all of the Bible.

The angel appears and tells them

The Glory of God appears

Fear not (they were very (sore) afraid)

The I bring good news of great joy

A baby is born in “the City of David”

They would certainly know where this was.

The angel told them what they would see.

I. A Savior.

A. A word that is not used much today.

B. It’s a person who saves us.

C. It was made clear to Joseph when the angel told

him.

Matt. 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and

thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save

his people from their sins.

D. Jesus came to save us from our sin.

1. In our sin we are doomed to death.

Rom. 6:23 For the wages of sin is death;

Rom. 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin

entered into the world, and death by sin; and so

death passed upon all men, for that all have

sinned:

2. Sin entered into the world when Adam disobey

the Lord.

E. Jesus was born to be our “Savior”.

1. The one who would save us from our sin.

2. He would do that by dying our death on and old

rugged cross.

3. He then rose on the third day, giving us

salvation.

F. John would later tell us

1John 4:14 ¶ And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Saviour of the world.

F. AND so my trusting Him, He becomes our Savior.

II. Which is Christ.

A. They shepherds would understand that is is the Messiah.

B. The one who was promised throughout the ages.

C. They know His coming was soon.

D. Many were looking for Him (last week’s message)

E. The anointed one — God’s chosen.

F. This had to be music in the Shepherd’s ear.

1. The Messiah is here.

2. The one spoken of by the Prophets

3. Not wonder they “came with haste”. Vs. 16

III. The Lord

A. The master of the universe.

B. He is the Creator of the world , the Sustainer of

life, the Savor.

C. The shepherds recognized Him as the Lord.

D. One day he will be recognized by every person that

was ever born.

Phil. 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted

him, and given him a name which is above every

name:Phil. 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every

knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in

earth, and things under the earth;Phil. 2:11 And

that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ

is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

E. When He comes the Bible says

Rev. 19:16 And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS.

Conclusion.

Luke goes on the tell us that that shepherd…

…came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the babe lying in a manger. Luke 2:16

And in the babe they saw

The Savor that would take away the sins of the world

The Messiah that had been promised throughout the ages

The Lord who would one day reign supreme.
