Summary: THE ENEMIE’S GIFT IS ALWAYS SUGAR-COATED AND CHEAP. REFUSE IT AND BE SAFE.

SWEET JOURNEY

GENESIS 24:32-33

So the man went to the house, and the camels were unloaded, straw and fodder were brought for the camels, and water for him and his men to wash their feet. Then food was set before him, but he said, “ I will not eat until I have told you what I have to say”.

There is a funny tradition in the community where I come from. A person carrying a cat either from the market of from a friend is not supposed to greet anyone and if one is greeted he/she is supposed to keep quiet until the cat is taken home lest the cat becomes a “thief.” It is a funny belief of which I have witnessed some people rejecting greetings sending out confusion to the one saluting the other. And so next time you come to our land and greetings are not relayed back, do not insist, somebody may be carrying a cat! we love visitors so much and are always the first to say habari or jambo (hallo) or Bwana Asifiwe! (praise God)

In 1 Kings 13: 20-26 the prophet was told not to eat nor drink but decided to disobey which culminated to his death. Christians have an obligation in taking the word to the nations. We should therefore be keen on any trick the devil may try to use in order to distract us from fulfilling our calling.

The devil may use delaying tactics in order to pull you out of focus as in 1 Samuel 21:8 where David emphasizes that the kings business requires haste. Procrastination is yet another tactic that the devil uses to switch off urgent divine priorities. He tells Christians to postpone what could be done today. Judges 19:1-29 explains the consequences of procrastination as you continue reading Judges 20; this resulted in thousands being killed in battle. There are many other tricks that the devil is using to slay Christians with. I have heard brethren talk of holy anger, holy lies…..lies are lies and all who cheat have their destiny in hell with their father the greatest liar of all time; Lucifer!

A certain man is reported to have taken a loan in one city. As he journeyed home in a bus, a fellow passenger offered him a sweet- the man looked quite unsuspecting and so he accepted the offer and he went ahead enjoying the sweetness. That was the last thing the man could recall as he woke up in a hospital bed with all the money gone- stolen. Such incidences are common where men and women have been lured by innocent people and drugged into sleep. Eve was lured by the serpent into eating the forbidden fruit as a result, the implication is still active many generations later.

Christians who are focused never give the devil an opportunity to lure them. You should take the message home before anything else comes into mind. Go and preach the gospel, stop admiring the world, there is nothing good to be admired otherwise we wouldn’t be preaching! The Lord told Joshua (Joshua 1:7) to be strong and courageous, to be careful to obey all the law and not to turn from it to the right or to the left for him to be successful. Lots wife turned back and she is a pillar of salt. Great men never turn back, they are never distracted nor discouraged. They are focused men who never eat until they have achieved their mission. Go ahead and preach! Stop salivating after those hotdogs or else the devil will end up making you one!
