STUDY IN REVELATION 37

The New Heavens, The New Earth

and The New Jerusalem Revealed

Revelation 21: 1-8

Have ever thought about what eternity will be like? What will it be like to live with God, forever and ever?

Let’s take a closer look at these eight verses and see what it will be like.

V. 1John sees a new creation as new heaven and a new earth were made.

What happened to the old one?

˜nothing, God just made a new somewhere else. ˜John said they had passed away and even the sea was gone.

The reality is that everything as we know it will be totally destroyed.

Put a check in the box next to the items that are gone, forever:

–The sun –The moon –Every star –Satan –All believers –Every planet –Severe thunderstorms –Hurricanes –Tornados –Tragic weather –God

Do you believe that every star and planet in every solar system will be gone œYes œNo Just our solar system

What do think will be so different about this new heaven and new earth? Discussion time

The next time you look up at a starry night, smell a flower, or look out across a field of wheat or look at any of the wonders of this world; try to imagine what the night sky will look like, what the world around you will look and smell like when those things are part of a universe without sin.

I wonder what they will be like, created in perfect magnificence.

V.2 John saw the City of God, the New Jerusalem coming down from God out of heaven.

But I thought that heaven and earth passed away? Remember what Paul said about trip he took?

2Cr 12:2 I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago--whether in the body I do not know, or whether out of the body I do not know, God knows--such a one was caught up to the third heaven. [NKJV]

2Cr 12:2 I was caught up into the third heaven fourteen years ago. [NLT]

Why would God destroy His dwelling place? He didn’t need to, since His dwelling place would already be perfect.

Some would argue that the only thing that is destroyed is the earth and the surrounding atmosphere. But when you take the earth out of the equation you throw the entire universe into a tail spin.

John also said that the new earth was adorned like a bride. Now I have been to few weddings where the bride was wearing blue jeans but for the most part the bride is adorned in magnificent beauty.

We will discuss this New Jerusalem in more detail, in the next passage.

V. 3 There is going to be immediate fellowship with God.

Can you think of a time or times, when you could not feel the presence of God?

Think about how wonderful it will be when we will never fell that way again. We will always be in the presence of God and able to fellowship with Him face to face.

WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!!!!!!

V4-6 Everything will be just perfect.

When this day comes we will not only be living a perfect world but a perfected or glorified body, as well.

Look at the words of this wonderful hymn

There is coming a day when no heartaches shall come

No more clouds in the sky, no more tears to dim the eye.

All is peace forevermore on that happy golden shore,

What a day, glorious day that will be.

Chorus

What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see,

And I look upon His face,

The One who saved me by His grace;

When He takes me by the hand

And leads me through the Promised Land,

What a day, glorious day that will be.

There’ll be no sorrow there, no more burdens to bear,

No more sickness, no pain, no more parting over there;

And forever I will be with the One who died for me,

What a day, glorious day that will be.

Chorus

What a day that will be when my Jesus I shall see,

And I look upon His face,

The One who saved me by His grace;

When He takes me by the hand

And leads me through the Promised Land,

What a day, glorious day that will be.

What a day, glorious day that will be!

WHAT A DAY THAT WILL BE!!!!!!

Let’s list the things that John says will not be there.

1. Tears Because God is going to wipe them ALL away

2. No one will ever die again

3. There will be no more crying

4. Won’t it be good when all pain is taken away?

*When you think about no more death a number of things must come to mind.
