Studies In Revelation: Church Of Ephesus Series
Contributed by Edward Hardee on Nov 28, 2017 (message contributor)
Summary: This is a study of chapters 2-3 church of Ephesus in the book of Revelation. This is a controversial subject but takes a conservative approach to understanding the book.
If not God will pass judgment. He will "come unto thee quickly and will remove the candlestick out of his place,” God will close a church who does not repent and get back to him. Either physically or spiritually. We must repent.
6 But this thou hast, that thou hatest the deeds of the Nicolaitians, which I also hate.
Nicolaitans are people that we don’t know much about. But one common interpretation is that they are a group of people who believed that you must experience sin to understand it. So their favorite practice was sexual immorality. We will see them again when we talk about the church of Pergamos.
7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
Jesus understood the importance of hearing. It will always be important. How shall a man know except that he hear. This includes hearing from God in our prayer time and in our worship but also from the person preaching or teaching the word of God. And if we overcome, oh we need to overcome. overcome what? this world. If we do we will be able to eat of the tree of life. When is this last mentioned in this sense is in Genesis. Soon things will be different.
¶ If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. (Colossians 3:1-2 AV)
