Small beginning

Genesis 23:20 “So the field and the cave that is in it, were deeded over to Abraham for a burial site by the sons of Heth.”

Though chapter 23 begins by talking about the death of Sarah who was 127 years old; yet, we need to have spiritual eyes to understand the work of God behind the scene. By the time you reach the last scripture of that chapter, we read that Abraham now owned a piece of land which he had bought for full price as burial ground for his wife. Hosanna to the highest! Until that point of time, Abraham though he had connections with kings and officers of the land but he possessed no land; however, with the death of his wife, God started His work in the life of Abraham. I am talking to someone out there, let the death of someone, departure of someone you depended much, betrayal or loss not stump you or bulldoze your dreams, let your faith be like Abraham to arise from that situation and move on to possess the promises of God. Hallelujah!

I admired Abraham and his attitude during the entire chapter 23 and gathered enormous lessons for myself. Normally with the death of someone dear and near to us, people just sit in a corner sob and mope ; however, here we see Abraham actively bargaining over the purchase of a land for burying his wife with astute wisdom and tact. Leadership qualities of Abraham stand out in this chapter which we all should emulate.

We can look at this chapter and feel it is about the funeral of Sarah, no….no…. it is about God starting a small beginning through the purchase of that piece of land. Look at your future with faith and thank God for the job he has given you even though the salary may be small, from there God would take you to higher levels if you stay patient and loyal.

Nothing happens like magic, when we started Abide School, we started with NO children, despite offering free lunch, books and uniform, we had no takers. I sat for 3 months in the school with the big name board but no students. I wondered if I was right in doing this; we printed pamphlets about our school and distributed in the community around us. Hard work, commitment, determination, faith, patience and prayers are the manure we pour into our vision. After 3 months 7 students joined and then after 11 years it has now received Government recognition and functions as a full-fledged ‘FREE ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL FOR THE POOR”. Keep pressing on…..
