Stewards Of Christ
Contributed by Shashi Marian on Feb 24, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: Stewardship is a responsible position in the Kingdom of God. It is important to understand the seriousness of the calling to Stewardship. The following few points in brief will explain how and what leads to be that Stewards whom God is expecting.
Paul the Apostle in writing to the Corinthian Church talks about two important callings. We can see that in 1 Corinthians 4:1-2. Servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
There is a difference between Servants and Stewards. Servants are basically the ones who labor, the ones that are hired to work anything that has been designated to them. Stewards are basically managers or that those in the managerial position who oversee the Servants or the works which the Servants carry out. A Servant can become a Steward but a Steward cannot become a Servant except for in exceptional scenarios.
The Bible talks about the Stewards of the mysteries of God. Mystery is something that is hidden. That which is concealed or which is not revealed to a common man. The position of a Steward is very important in the Kingdom of God. It has to be taken due care of.
A few qualities which determine the Steward is mentioned below.
1. Faithfulness: A steward is required to be faithful. Faithfulness determine our obedience. It is also stated that he who is faithful in little things will be entrusted with greater things. Faithfulness needs to be the basic quality of any individual. Anything that is entrusted under our care needs to be treated with utmost care as it concerns the Kingdom of God.
2. Accountability: A steward is required to be accountable. Accountability plays a very important role in the Kingdom of God. God is a God of order and not of disorder. Irrespective of what position we hold we have to learn to be accountable. Where there is no accountability there is confusion and self seeking.
3. Responsible: A steward is required to be responsible. Responsibility is a very important quality in the Kingdom of God. Irresponsible people or behaviour is always detrimental to the work of God. His Kingdom has to be managed responsibly. A responsible individual will never have a casual attitude towards the Kingdom of God. He knows his duty well.
4. Good: A steward is required to be good. He cannot be harsh and rude. He has to be polite in dealing with situations and people. He should never be a hindrance to somebody. He should always make scope for others to grow, encouraging and building one another for the Kingdom of God.
My Prayer is that even as we take up the responsibility of being the Stewards of the mysteries of the Kingdom, God bless you abundantly.
