STANDING AT A DISTANCE LOOKING THROUGH BINOCULARS?
--- ACCEPTING A SPIRIT OF BARRENESS?
PONDERING PLAYGROUND OR BOOT CAMP?
By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com
This is at least a two part message.
2 Kings 2:7 And fifty men of the sons of the prophets went, and stood to view afar off: and they two stood by Jordan.
Isaiah 6:8 Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
BARREN:
To not produce life.
Unable to reproduce, not able to bear fruit, dull, unprofitable.
Sterile, infertile, not expecting.
Desert:
To forsake, to abandon, to give up.
Desolate, uninhabited, empty, void.
To deserve punishment.
I. IS IT EASY TO ACCEPT BARREN LIFELESS --- UNFRUITFULNESS AS A NORM?
A. In the Bible days to be BARREN was counted as severe punishment.
B. Norm: acceptable, standard, pattern, customary behavior.
C. Will we accept barrenness as acceptable?
D. DAVID KNEW HOW TO WORSHIP GOD! He did not care what people thought.
David’s wife loved him, but she could not see the eternal part of praise and worship.
2 Samuel 6:16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.
E. Micah’s worship style was much different from David’s. Micah was more reserved and concerned about what people thought. David comes home TO BLESS HIS HOUSE, and she MOCKED and made fun of David.
2 Samuel 6:20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king
of Israel today, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!
F. DAVID’S WORSHIP WAS SPECIAL, PERSONAL --- David loved God, and gave himself totally.
2 Samuel 6:21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.
22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in
honour.
G. GOD REQUIRED A PAYMENT PLAN FOR HOW MEAN AND NOT UNDERSTANDING MICAH WAS TO DAVID.
2 Samuel 6:23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.
H. WHY DIDN’T MICAH REPENT?
Why wasn’t she sorry? Why didn’t she humble herself and repent after she made a big mistake? If we confess, God is faithful to forgive.
I. MICAH WAS SATISFIED TO ACCEPT HER BARREN CONDITION AS THE NORM. How sad?
J. Are we looking for SOLOMON’S TEMPLE OR DAVID’S HEART?
II. THERE WERE MANY BARREN, HOPELESS CASES THAT REFUSED TO ACCEPT BARRENNESS AS THEIR NORM!
A. The lamp of God was growing very dim at church.
Eli and his two Preacher sons, Hophni and Phinephas were out of touch with God.
The Preachers were good at their religious duties, but they did not know God in a personal way.
Eli thought HANNAH WAS DRUNK, he couldn’t recognize God’s spirit upon her?
B. HANNAH CAME TO CHURCH BROKEN AND BARREN, she spilled herself before the Lord God.
HANNAH SOUGHT GOD FOR WHAT WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO MAN ---
HANNAH ASKED GOD FOR A SON!
C. GOD GAVE HANNAH A SPECIAL SON --- NAMED SAMUEL.
Samuel was faithful to God and ignited the flame of God in the church.
Samuel would anoint the first two Kings of Israel.
D. Once a year Hannah made a special little coat for her son, thread? tears?
GOD HONORED HER ---
1 Samuel 2:21 And the Lord visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the Lord.
E. BARREN HANNAH HAD 6 CHILDREN, Samuel and 3 more sons and two daughters.
F. WHY? Because Hannah would not accept BEING BARREN!
III. COME O BARREN AND GIVE LIFE.
ABRAHAM IS CALLED THE FATHER OF THE FAITH, AND SARAH IS THE MOTHER.
SARAI WAS BARREN --- NO CHILDREN --- BUT GOD...
A. 20 YEARS THE PROMISE WAS TO ABRAHAM, THE BARRENNESS BECOME DRY BONES?
B. Don’t try to redefine GOD’S PROMISE.
Genesis 17:17 Then Abraham fell upon his face, and laughed, and said in his heart, Shall a child be born unto him that is an hundred years old? and shall
Sarah, that is ninety years old, bear?
C. CAN GOD? GOD CAN! 100 years old AND 90 = MIRACLE.
