Summary: Sometimes we forget what's important in life. Sometimes we can't even identify what's important or what we should be doing at all. Some people are easily distracted and just drift thru life with no direction or purpose at all!

Story of the Masterpiece:

There was once a famous artist who was commissioned to paint a grand mural in a city’s main square. The entire town was excited, eager to see the final masterpiece. The artist spent months meticulously preparing his brushes, mixing his paints, arranging his tools, and doing research. However, as the deadline approached, he realized he had spent more time preparing than actually painting.

The townspeople began to worry, asking, “Where is the masterpiece? Why haven’t you started?”

The artist replied, “I’ve been so focused on getting everything ready that I forgot to do the most important thing—paint the mural.”

In the end, the artist realized that all the preparations, though important, were secondary to the actual act of creating the art. He quickly shifted his focus, pouring his heart into the painting, and the result was a beautiful masterpiece that the town cherished for generations.

Have you ever had trouble focusing on what’s important?

Luke 10:38-42 Mary and Martha

38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who was also seated at the Lord’s feet, and was listening to His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do the serving by myself? Then tell her to help me.” 41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”

The scene:

Now we see in these verses Mary and Martha, and likely these are the same that were in Bethany mentioned in the Bible. Likely, all of the apostles are there, maybe some other disciples, and Jesus all in their house so it was probably quite a lot of people to show hospitality to. Certainly that would make anyone have anxiety. We see that Mary, instead of helping Martha, was just sitting at Jesus’ feet and listening to His teachings and not helping Martha!

Martha stomps:

So, you can just picture Martha stomping in the room and attempting to scold Jesus! Don’t you care? Tell her to help!

Now if anyone was a caring person it would be Jesus, wouldn’t you say? So really this whole scolding is laughable already!

But, we see something here that happens all too often. Getting too busy to spend time with the Lord!

Her story in the Bible:

Ya know, it must be really embarrassing to have your story in the most read book! Can you imagine, her looking down from heaven, and everyone here on earth has 20/20 vision and can see what’s completely wrong with what you did?

Do you also spend time with the Lord?:

Now step back for a moment and think, do you believe you have always spent the right amount of time with the Lord? Ah yeah, it’s easy to point the finger but we always forget those three fingers pointing back at us!

It’s so easy to let the world distract us and pull us away to other things.

Job

Watch TV

Watch Football

Sleep - yeah that sleep always gets in the way doesn’t it!!!

Busy going places

Busy minds - what are you thinking about?

Don’t let the Squirrel distract you! Squirrel!

Many times, we have a lot of time to spend some time if we wanted but we just don’t!

There are like two kinds of people: procrastinators and really bad procrastinators!

Seize the day!:

Proverbs 10:5

He who gathers in summer is a son who acts wisely,

But he who sleeps in harvest is a son who acts shamefully.

What does that mean? Make hay while the sun shines? It sort of means seize the day?

Many people don’t seize the day! They float thru life never accomplishing anything or making anything of themselves, not caring about anyone or anything, and happy to be grumpy!

Don’t be that way! If you don’t know what’s important, you better figure it out before it’s too late!

Joke:

One day, a man prayed, “Lord, help me stay focused on what really matters.”

Suddenly, his phone buzzed. He checked the message, then scrolled through social media for a bit. After an hour, he looked up and said, “Wait… what was I praying about again?”

Continuing… Luke 10:41-42 Mary and Martha

41 But the Lord answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and distracted by many things; 42 but only one thing is necessary; for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her.”
