About JIM
  • Education: Assoc Church Music Education, Assoc Bible
  • Experience: Music Minister at previous church (20 years), Sunday School Teacher (previous church), Sunday School Teacher Substitute, Assisted Living Center Preacher
  • Comment to those looking at my sermons: I rarely like doing the typical classical Intro, 4 points, and Conclusion type message. Instead I'd like my messages to take the listener on a journey of understanding and lead the listener to "visualize" or "realize" the point of the message and make it their own. I'll admit that my message are many times unconventional and possibly even whacky and weird but hopefully that helps to sink the point deep. I like dichotomies which seems to help in understanding a point. I'd like to hope that all of my messages point to love and faith in Jesus and His free gift of salvation. I figure I steal bits and pieces of other sermons - don't be offended, be flattered!
  • Sermon or series that made a difference: A revival that each night used a piece of 2 Chronicles 7:14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.
  • One of my favorite illustrations: A preacher once had a 6 plug power strip and used that as a visual to talk about the power of God, that you can't be connected to self, but must be connected to God's love, and then the love can flow to others.
  • Family: I have a Wife and two daughters. Wife works as Missions Assistant. Oldest daughter is an Immigration paralegal and has CF and is engaged. Youngest daughter works at In and Out.
  • What my parents think of my sermons: Please pray for my parents. They are still alive and they claim to be saved but they do not go to church.
  • What my spouse (really) thinks of my sermons: I share them with her. Sometimes she comments on them, mostly enjoys them I'd like to think.
  • Best advice given to me about preaching: You don't have to preach an intro, four points, and a conclusion. Tell a story instead. People like stories.
  • Books that have had an impact: None of these diseases. Evidence that demands a verdict.
  • Hobbies: Rolling Ball Sculptures, Electronics, Theology, 3D Printing, AI
  • If I could Preach one more time, I would say...: Put your faith in Jesus!
  • Something funny that happened while preaching: At the assisted living center many funny things happen while preaching. Often times rhetorical questions become non-rhetorical questions so you have to be careful about that!
  • What I want on my tombstone: Jeremiah 29:11
