Summary: We need to understand what spurs are to a cowboy. How about what a goad is to a farmer? Will we be God's little headshrinkers or will we purposefully encourage others. Someone needs you today.

SPUR TO ACTION (MOTIVATION) (GOAD)

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

(I have a set of spurs. I hook to a pair of boots. We discuss what IS THE FUNCTION OF spurs. You can get toy spurs or real spurs at farm store. If this is unavailable you can just talk about them. You also could use a salad dressing that separates quickly. You could use a flashlight with weak batteries then replace with strong batteries?) I also have a goad, a long stick with a pointed tip.

LET US DEFINE SPURS: SOMETHING THAT AROUSES ACTIVITY.

SPUR: AN INCENTIVE OR ENCOURAGEMENT. A DEVICE WITH A SMALL SPIKED WHEEL THAT IS WORN ON THE RIDER’S HEEL AND USED TO URGE THE HORSE TO FOLLOW THE RIDER’S COMMAND. To dig spurs into flank. A thing that prompts or urges a horse to do commands.

GOAD: A TRADITIONAL FARMING IMPLEMENT USED TO GUIDE LIVESTOCK which are plowing or pulling a cart. A STICK WITH A POINTED END.

Hebrews 10:24 (NIV) And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds.

Hebrews 10:24 (NLT2) Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

I OFTEN HEAR THIS QUESTION: DO I HAVE TO? HAVE TO ATTEND CHURCH? HAVE TO PAY TITHES? DO I HAVE TO FORGIVE? BY ASKING THE HAVE TO QUESTION WE ARE EXPOSING A VERY SERIOUS HEART PROBLEM… WE NEED TO HAVE THE ATTITUDE: I GET TO… I WANT TO… I LOVE TO…

DO WE RECOGNIZE THE NEED TO EDIFY AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO BE MOTIVATED AND FEEL LOVE?

Life can bring much discouragement and at times be crushing with all the complaining and gripping. Think about what can I do to make things better? To edify and encourage others! Are we teammates? Are we pulling together?

Hebrews 10:22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;) 24 And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: 25.5 Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

Hebrews 10:22 (MSG) So let's do it—full of belief, confident that we're presentable inside and out.

23 Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word. 24 Let's see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, 25 not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:22 (NIV) let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. 25. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

THERE IS A RARELY PRACTICED ACTION IN THE CHURCH. SEEMS WE FEAR A FRIEND MIGHT GET A “BIG HEAD.” Not to worry my friend, we have enough “HEADSHRINKERS.” ARE YOU A “HEADSHRINKER” FOR THE LORD?

Romans 15:2 Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.

Romans 15:2 (MSG) Each one of us needs to look after the good of the people around us, asking ourselves, "How can I help?" Romans 15:2 (NLT2) We should help others do what is right and build them up in the Lord.

Romans 15:2 (NIV) Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 (MSG) So speak encouraging words to one another. Build up hope so you'll all be together in this, no one left out, no one left behind. I know you're already doing this; just keep on doing it.

Romans 8:31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?

NEVER LOSE HEART, SPUR ONE ANOTHER: NEVER GIVE UP, LIFE IS ONE BIG CHALLENGE! WE ARE TESTED AND PUSHED ON EVERY SIDE… WE MUST NEVER ALLOW FEAR, WORRY, AND DISAPPOINTMENTS TO REIGN. GOD IS WITH US… THEREFORE WE MUST WEAR OUR SPURS AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS. WE MUST REACH DOWN IN OUR HEARTS AND FIND MOTIVATION AND ENCOURAGE OTHERS. YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE IF YOU SO DESIRE!
