God's power is often manifested in small, steady actions and steps of faith, and no action is too small or insignificant in His great plan.

Introduction

Good morning, family. Today, we're going to delve into a beautiful part of God's Word that reminds us of the significance of small things in His great plan. Our focus will be Zechariah 4:6-10.

The Scripture reads:

"Then he said to me, 'This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: Not by might, nor by power, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain. And he shall bring forward the top stone amid shouts of ‘Grace, grace to it!’ Moreover, the word of the Lord came to me, saying, 'The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this house; his hands shall also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord of hosts has sent me to you. For whoever has despised the day of small things shall rejoice, and shall see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.'"

In this passage, we see God’s power at work, not in the grand and flashy, but in the small, steady work of His faithful servant.

A.W. Tozer once wrote, "A scared world needs a fearless church." This is a call for us to take small but brave steps, to make small but significant actions, knowing that God will use these for His glory.

Let's pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the small things. For the small steps we take in faith, for the small acts of love we show to others, and for the small victories in our lives. Help us to remember that in your greatness, no action is too small, and no step is insignificant. Let your Spirit guide us as we delve deeper into your word today. We pray all these in Jesus' name, Amen.

Now, let's dive in.

The Power of Small Steps

The prophet Zechariah, in his vision, sees Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah, not relying on his own might or power, but on the Spirit of the Lord to accomplish God's work.

Zerubbabel was not tasked with moving a literal mountain, but rather, he was tasked with rebuilding the temple - a daunting task that would require great faith and perseverance.

This task could not be accomplished in one grand gesture, but rather, it would require many small, faithful steps.

Our own lives: We often overlook the power of small steps. We live in a world that glorifies the grand, the spectacular, and the instantaneous.

We are often tempted to believe that if we cannot do something big for God, then our efforts are not worth much.

But this passage from Zechariah challenges this mindset. It reminds us that God's work is often done not through grand gestures, but through small, faithful steps.

Small steps of faith taken by biblical characters: Abraham took the small step of leaving his homeland, not knowing where he was going, but trusting in God's promise.

David, as a young shepherd boy, took the small step of picking up five smooth stones to face the giant Goliath.

The widow in the temple gave her last two coins, a small step of faith that Jesus praised above all others.

These small steps, guided by faith, led to significant outcomes in God's plan.

Can have a profound impact: Each time we choose to pray, to read God's Word, to serve others, to forgive, to love, we are taking small steps of faith.

These steps may seem insignificant in the grand scheme of things, but they are precious to God and are used by Him in ways we may not fully understand.

God often works gradually in our lives: Sanctification, the process of becoming more like Christ, is not an overnight transformation.

It is a journey of small steps, of daily dying to self and living for Christ.

Each small step we take in obedience to God, each small victory over sin, each small act of love, is a part of this journey.

They require and build faith: Each small step we take is a step of faith, a step taken not in our own strength but in the strength that God provides.

And each step of faith strengthens our trust in God, deepens our relationship with Him, and prepares us for the next step.

Not just a biblical concept: Small steps are a reality that we can observe in our daily lives.

Small habits, consistently practiced, can lead to significant changes over time.

A small act of kindness can brighten someone's day and perhaps even change their life.

A small word of encouragement can give someone the strength to keep going.

We need to trust that God is at work in the small, seemingly insignificant areas of our lives, and that He is using our small steps of faith to accomplish His great purposes.

God's Greatness in Small Things

God's greatness in small things is a reminder that God's power and majesty are not only displayed in grand miracles or dramatic events, but also in the seemingly insignificant details of our everyday lives ... View this full PRO sermon free with PRO
