Slaying in Egypt.

Exodus 1:15 -- 22. 07/13/03

The Bible says there was a new king over Egypt and this new King did not know Joseph. Possibly because of this it was going to be the downfall of Egypt. The new King seemed to be afraid of Israelites in Egypt so, he ordered them to be in hard bondage. They were slaves in Egypt working from sun up till sundown. Still the Israelites were multiplying.

Then the King devised another plan. He ordered the midwives to murder the boy babies at birth. This order became the law of the land. If it had been left up to the new king there would not have been an Israelite for Moses to lead to freedom. But the King was fighting against God and no way to win. You may be able to eliminate some races but the Jews aren’t one of them. In the book of Jeremiah the Bible says, “though I make an end of all nations to which I have scattered thee, Israel, yet will I not make a full end to thee.”

There was an order in the land and sanctioned by the government to kill all the male babies. Sounds familiar. Today we call it abortion, or preferred by the liberals pro-choice. But you listen to this preacher it is still murder and God will judge it as so. God’s judgment may not have descended on America for our abortion practices yet but it will. Egypt went many years before they suffered the divine judgment of God for their evil practices but the judgment was heavy. If you think America will experience light judgment, then you haven’t read your Bible.

As we examine the slaying in Egypt, our first point is found in versus 15 and 16. THE ORDERS FOR THE SLAYING. The Bible says, “and the King of Egypt spoke to the Hebrew midwives, and he said, when you do the office of the midwives to the Hebrew women, and see them upon the stools; if it be a son, then you shall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then she shall live.” Expecting mothers have confidence in the midwives. The midwives work was to help preserve life. Yet they were ordered to betray the trust that women had in the them. And the midwives were under the government sanction.

Abortion is the same. Doctors to abort, betray their medical oath to try saving life. Abortion takes that which is alive and kills it. Folks it is wrong and doesn’t go unnoticed by the Lord.

We see not only the orders for the slaying but also THE OBSTACLES TO THE SLAYING. Look at verse 17. “But the midwives, did not as the King commanded them, but saved the men children alive.” The midwives we are told in verse 17, “feared God.” No doubt they feared the King, but they feared God the more. And that fear purified their conduct.

One of the problems we have in the world today is that we have a great fear of man but little fear of God. We get so concerned about what men may think of us and what they may do to us, we adjust our conduct trying to please man. If it comes to having to please one or the other, I suggest strongly you adjust your conduct to please God.

Now I know what some of you are thinking. In versus 18, 19, the midwives lied. When the King found out his plan was going so well he “called for the midwives, and said unto them, why have you done this thing, and have saved the men children alive? And the midwives said unto Pharaoh, because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women: for they are lively; and are delivered before the midwives come in unto them.”

While we can commend them for saving the male children, we cannot commend them for their lying. But listen, I believe the midwives performed better in the faith even with their failure than a lot of Saints perform today with all the spiritual advantages that are present in our land. And the reason I say this is found in verses 20 and 21. “God dealt well with the midwives. And it came to pass, because the midwives feared God, that he made them houses.”

Then finally, we see THE OBJECTIVES IN THE SLAYING. Actually, there were two objectives, both headed up by the devil. One objective of the devil was to stop the work of God. God said that Israel would go back to Canaan.

The other objective of the devil was to stop the Son of God. The devil wanted to stop the Jewish race. He did not want the Son of God to be born.
