Summary: Sins that easily beset us are many, but let's take a look at two very pesty ones today, envy and jealousy.

1. It is the outburst of impassioned feelings over the position and possession of others.

a. Envy is mentioned over 40 times in the Bible.

b. Jealousy is mentioned over 50 times in the Bible.

2. Envy is a desire to have what another person has.

a. Not a longing to have the same kind.

b. The envious person wants to strip another of something in order to possess it complete and solely.

3. Everyone is affected by envy and jealously. The worst part about it is that we keep it after God shows us our heart and what to do about it.

4. Proverbs 14:30; envy will destroy us.

I. Do I Have It?

1. Jealousy sulks or pants when others succeed.

a. It behaves in a cold malicious spirit when others are experiencing good deeds.

2. Jealousy works on your own level or class.

a. On the job.

b. In the church.

c. In any walk of life.

3. Jealousy feeds on the good accomplishments of others in your own field.

4. It shows itself by trying to belittle the success of others.

II. Where Did I Get It?

1. It begins with forgetting about God. Romans 1:28-29

a. Natural for lost to have it, but not saved.

b. Acts 17:5

2. With lust, Titus 3:3

3. By never growing up.

a. 1 Corinthians 3:3

b. Carnality

III. What Will it Do to Me?

1. It is blind to the goodness of others. 1 Samuel 18:7-9

2. It destroys family relations.

a. Joseph and his brothers. Genesis 37:4-8

b. Elder son. Luke 15:25-32

3. It brings confusion and evil work. James 3:14-16

4. Beware: Jealousy kills friendship between church people and their leaders.

a. Between husband and wife and kids.

b. Between neighbors and friends.

c. Between co-labors.

IV. How Do I Get Rid of It?

1. Each on must face the danger of it in himself.

2. Don’t try to justify yourself in it.

3. Pray to God for others to yourself.

4. Rejoice over the good fortune of others.

5. Fight the sin, resist the Devil and he will flee from you. James 4:17

6. Crucify self. Paul said, “I die daily.”

7. When envy and jealously is cured. Love will be seen. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
