SINGING A SONG IN A STRANGE LAND

PSALM 137

BY THE RIVERS OF BABYLON WE SAT AND WEPT WHEN WE REMEMBERED ZION. THERE ON THE POPLARS WE HUNG OUR HARPS FOR THERE OUR CAPTORS ASKED US FOR SONGS, OUR TORMENTORS DEMANDED SONGS OF JOY; THEY SAID, “SING US ONE OF THE SONGS IN ZION.” HOW CAN WE SING THE SONGS OF THE LORD WHILE IN A FOREIGN LAND? IF I FORGET YOU, JERUSALEM, MAY MY RIGHT HAND FORGET ITS SKILL.

MAY MY TONGUE CLING TO THE ROOF OF MY MOUTH IF I DO NOT REMEMBER YOU, IF I DO NOT CONSIDER JERUSALEM, MY HIGHEST JOY.

WHAT DO YOU THINK OF WHEN YOU HEAR THE WORD WORSHIP? TO SOME PEOPLE WORSHIP MAY BE A PHYSICAL ACT OR WORDS OF ADMIRATION. THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SHOW GOD YOUR LOVE AND RESPECT. ONE WAY WE SHOW HIM OUR DEVOTION IS THROUGH SONG. THE BIBLE GIVES US INSIGHT INTO WORSHIP THROUGH SINGING. PAM JAMES HAS BEEN CALLED TO SING, THAT IS HER CALLING, AND GOD BLESSES THOSE LISTENING TO HER WHEN SHE SINGS.

WE ALL GO THROUGH STRANGE LANDS, LANDS WHERE SOMETIME ITS HARD TO SING EVEN THOUGH WE KNOW GOD HAS TAKEN US THERE.

WE ALL HAVE TO UNDERSTAND GOD DOES NOT MAKE MISTAKES, EVERYTHING THAT TOUCHES OUR LIVES AS GOD’S CHILDREN, HE ORDAINS IT.

Sing to the Lord a new song - Isaiah 42:105 Scriptures on Singing His Praises

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation. Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise.

Psalm 95:1 (ESV)

Sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvelous things.

Psalm 98:1 (NIV)

Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy.

Psalm 100:1-2 (NLT)

Sing to the Lord a new song, and his praise from the ends of the earth.

Isaiah 42:10 (NKJV)

Are any of you suffering hardships? You should pray. Are any of you happy? You should sing praises.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO SING A NEW SONG TO THE LORD?

THE HEBREW WORD “NEW” MEANS FRESH, RENEWED.

THE WORD “NEW” IN EZEKIEL 11:19 IS THE SAME WORD IN HEBREW.

ISAIAH 42:10 “AND I WILL GIVE THEM ONE HEART, AND I WILL PUT A NEW SPIRIT WITHIN YOU”.

GOD LOVES DOING A “NEW” THING AND RENEWING OUR BODY, SOUL, AND SPIRIT. WHEN WE SING TO HIM A NEW SONG WE ARE WORSHIPING AND PRAISING HIM BUT AT THE SAME WE ARE RENEWING OUR MINDS AND SOULS BY REMEMBERING THE GREAT THINGS HE HAS DONE.

WE’RE GOING TO BE IN A STRANGE LAND, COMING AGAINST THE ENEMY, BUT REMEMBER WE MUST SING SONGS OF PRAISE AND WHEN THAT HAPPENS THE ENEMY LEAVES.

AS YOU READ THIS, IF YOU’RE IN A STRANGE LAND...SING!
