VIII. MAIN BODY:

This is what happens to the people of the Old Testament, if the leader lives in sin, the guilt is passed to his people. But thanks be to GOD, because JESUS is our High Priest in the New Testament, no longer we are cursed with guilt and sin because JESUS is both our High Priest and the Perfect Sacrifice, and because CHRIST never sinned, we are not guilty in GOD's eyes.

Hebrews 7:26-28 (Amplified Bible)

7:26 [Here is] the High Priest [perfectly adapted] to our needs, as was fitting—holy, blameless, unstained by sin, separated from sinners, and exalted higher than the heavens.

7:27 He has no day by day necessity, as [do each of these other] high priests, to offer sacrifice first of all for his own [personal] sins and then for those of the people, because He [met all the requirements] once for all when He brought Himself [as a sacrifice] which He offered up.

7:28 For the Law sets up men in their weakness [frail, sinful, dying human beings] as high priests, but the word of [God’s] oath, which [was spoken later] after the institution of the Law, [chooses and appoints as priest One Whose appointment is complete and permanent], a Son Who has been made perfect forever.

A. If the leader sins, the people are guilty

"If it is the anointed priest who sins, thus bringing guilt on the people,"

Priest or "kohen" in Hebrew meaning:

1. officiating

2. priest

3. acting priest

4. chief ruler, principal, officer

Sin or "chata" in Hebrew meaning:

1. to miss

2. to forfeit

3. to lead astray, condemn, bear the blame,

4. to commit

5. trespassive

This is both encouragement and discouragement for senior pastors.

Encouragement because it will all the more motivate the senior pastors to live holy lives before GOD because his guilt is not at stake but also for the good of his church members, so that they are not guilty.

Discouragement because it will discourage senior pastors to live in sin, because he will take a lot of people in his sin, not only himself.

Mark 14:27 (Amplified Bible)

14:27 And Jesus said to them, You will all fall away this night [that is, you will be caused to stumble and will begin to distrust and desert Me], for it stands written, I will strike the Shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered.

Simply don't be a pastor if you know you're still a baby CHRISTian or is not strong in the WORD and PRAYER, for the devil will not waste his time tempting to sin your church members, but the devil will go for the big time, he will tempt to sin the pastor and with him, the people will go down as well.

B. Let the priest confess his sin and live holy

"then let him offer for his sin which he has committed a young bull without blemish to the Lord as a sin offering."

Leviticus 11:45 (Amplified Bible)

11:45 For I am the Lord Who brought you up out of the land of Egypt to be your God; therefore you shall be holy, for I am holy.

1 Peter 1:14-16 (Amplified Bible)

1:14 [Live] as children of obedience [to God]; do not conform yourselves to the evil desires [that governed you] in your former ignorance [when you did not know the requirements of the Gospel].
