INTRODUCTION:

The Great Commission is not a suggestion but a divine mandate given to every believer. Jesus commands us to take the Good News to the world, ensuring that all people hear about salvation through Him. Sadly, many Christians shy away from this responsibility due to fear, complacency, or lack of understanding.

In a world filled with darkness, confusion, and sin, the gospel remains the only hope. The message of Christ’s love, redemption, and eternal life must be proclaimed with urgency. It is our duty to share this message with boldness and conviction.

This sermon examines the importance of sharing the gospel and how we, as believers, must respond to this divine mandate.

1. THE COMMAND TO PREACH THE GOSPEL

Jesus did not leave us an option; He gave us a command.

a) The gospel must be preached to all nations (Matthew 28:19-20)

The call to evangelise extends beyond our immediate surroundings to the ends of the earth.

b) The gospel is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16)

It is only through the gospel that people can receive salvation.

c) Faith comes by hearing the Word of God (Romans 10:17)

People cannot believe in Christ unless they hear about Him.

d) There is urgency in spreading the gospel (John 9:4)

The time to preach is now, as we do not know when Christ will return.

e) Biblical Example: The Early Church Obeyed the Great Commission (Acts 8:4)

When persecution arose, believers went everywhere preaching the Word.

2. EMPOWERED BY THE HOLY SPIRIT TO WITNESS

No believer can effectively share the gospel without the help of the Holy Spirit.

a) The Holy Spirit gives boldness to preach (Acts 4:31)

The apostles preached with boldness after being filled with the Spirit.

b) The Holy Spirit convicts hearts (John 16:8)

It is the Spirit of God that touches and changes hearts, not human wisdom.

c) The Holy Spirit gives the right words to speak (Luke 12:12)

In difficult situations, the Spirit helps us with the right words.

d) The Holy Spirit directs us to those who need salvation (Acts 16:9-10)

Just as Paul was led to Macedonia, the Spirit will guide us.

e) Biblical Example: Peter’s Sermon on Pentecost (Acts 2:14-41)

Through the power of the Holy Spirit, Peter preached, and 3,000 souls were saved.

3. OVERCOMING FEAR AND OPPOSITION IN EVANGELISM

Many Christians hesitate to share the gospel due to fear of rejection or persecution.

a) Fear is a tool of the enemy to silence believers (2 Timothy 1:7)

God has given us the spirit of boldness, not fear.

b) We must not be ashamed of the gospel (Romans 1:16)

The gospel is a message of power and transformation.

c) Suffering for the gospel is a privilege (Philippians 1:29)

The apostles rejoiced when they suffered for Christ.

d) God protects and defends His messengers (Isaiah 41:10)

The Lord is our strength when we face challenges.

e) Biblical Example: Paul’s Boldness Before Kings (Acts 26:24-29)

Paul boldly shared the gospel before King Agrippa without fear.

4. STRATEGIES FOR EFFECTIVE EVANGELISM

To be effective in sharing the Good News, we must adopt the right approach.

a) Live a life that reflects Christ (Matthew 5:16)

Our actions and lifestyle must align with the gospel message.

b) Use every opportunity to share the gospel (Colossians 4:5-6)

Every conversation can be an opportunity to introduce Christ.

c) Engage in personal and group evangelism (Luke 10:1-2)

Jesus sent His disciples out in pairs to evangelise.

d) Pray for open doors and receptive hearts (Colossians 4:3)

Prayer prepares the hearts of people to receive the gospel.

e) Biblical Example: Jesus’ Encounter with the Samaritan Woman (John 4:7-26)

Jesus used a simple conversation to lead the Samaritan woman to salvation.

5. THE REWARD FOR SHARING THE GOSPEL

God rewards those who are committed to winning souls.

a) There is great joy in heaven over one sinner who repents (Luke 15:7)

Every soul saved brings rejoicing in heaven.

b) Soul winners shine like stars in eternity (Daniel 12:3)

Those who turn many to righteousness will be glorified.

c) God provides for those who work in His vineyard (Matthew 6:33)

When we prioritise God’s kingdom, He takes care of our needs.

d) Eternal rewards await faithful evangelists (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Paul looked forward to his heavenly reward for serving Christ.

e) Biblical Example: The Crown of Righteousness for Paul (2 Timothy 4:7-8)

Paul remained faithful in sharing the gospel and received a crown of righteousness.

CONCLUSION:

Sharing the Good News is not an option but a divine mandate for every believer. The gospel is the power of God for salvation, and we must not keep it to ourselves. With the help of the Holy Spirit, we can preach the gospel boldly, overcoming fear and opposition.
