Summary: We must address this question: SHALL WE SMITE? Or What are we going to do with our swords? We do not need to be in bitter contention, debate, argue, fuss, there is a better way. Shall we smite? No, feed them!

SHALL WE SMITE? TWO SWORDS! WE HAVE TWO SWORDS!

WHAT ARE WE GOING TO DO WITH OUR SWORDS?

By Wade Martin Hughes, Sr. Kyfingers@aol.com

I did this lesson in two parts.

I have two swords and a plastic ear that I use in this

lesson.

I. HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF AN EYE FOR AN EYE?

WE LIKE THAT! UNLESS IT IS US!

Exodus 21:24 Eye for eye, tooth for tooth, hand for hand, foot for foot,

We don’t get mad, we get even!

We can easily accept anger, rebellion, revenge, strife, an arguing as acceptable behavior. Jesus has a high plane of living, will we take the high road?

There is a better way!

II. DO YOU EVER KNOW THERE IS MORE TO THIS LESSON THAN WHAT MY EYES AND EARS ARE SEEING AND HEARING?

WE CALL THESE HIDDEN LESSONS.

THE LESSON OF MALEHUS IS VERY DEEP.

Jesus wants His students to learn that ministry and life should not reduce to strife, debate, and fussing.

Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment,

and buy one.

38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough.

John 18:10 Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest’s servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant’s name was Malchus.

11 Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

IN LIFE THERE ARE AT LEAST TWO ROADS.

A HIGH ROAD

A LOW ROAD --- BASE, CARNAL.

III. SEVERAL THINGS HAVE GREAT SYMBOLISM TO THEM:

Matthew 27:29 And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and

mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

SCEPTER:

a staff or a baton borne by a sovereign emblem of authority.

Royal or imperial.

REMEMBER WHEN ESTHER APPROACHED THE KING?

IF THE KING DID NOT RAISE HIS SCPETER, SHE WOULD LOOSE HER LIFE.

Esther 5:2 And it was so, when the king saw Esther the queen standing in the court, that she obtained favour in his sight: and the king held out to Esther the golden sceptre that was in his hand. So Esther drew near, and touched the top of the sceptre.

GAUNTLET: --- A PROTECTIVE GLOVE --- to throw down to challenge to a duel.

CROWN:

A reward for victory.

The title of a championship.

A royal or imperial headdress.

To have regal dignity and power.

PURPLE ROBE:

SWORD:

A pointed weapon, a slashing weapon.

A weapon with a long blade for cutting or thrusting

An instrument of destruction or combat.

The use of force

Coercive power

AT SWORDS POINT --- READY TO FIGHT.

A sword can represent honor, knighthood, or an honor of authority.

Love can be mightier than the sword.

IV. IT IS EASY TO RELY ON FORCE AND THE SWORD,

THERE IS A GREAT DISADVANAGE TO LIVING BY THE SWORD.

Matthew 26:52 Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

DO YOU KNOW IT IS EASIER TO FIGHT WITH THE SWORD THAN WITH THE SPIRIT?

1 Samuel 17:45 Then said David to the Philistine, Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord

of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom thou hast defied.

V. THERE IS ONLY ONE WAY TO DEFEAT YOUR ENEMY?

WHAT IS IT?

MAKE HIM YOUR FRIEND!

WE HAVE OUR ENEMIES TRAPPED!

THEY ARE BLIND, SHALL WE KILL THEM?

2 Kings 6:17 And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

2 Kings 6:21 And the king of Israel said unto Elisha, when he saw them, My father, shall I smite them? shall I smite them?

2 Kings 6:22 And he answered, Thou shalt not smite them: wouldest thou smite those whom thou hast taken captive with thy sword and with thy bow? set bread and

water before them, that they may eat and drink, and go to their master.

VI. DO WE UNDERSTAND PERSONAL REVENGE?

DO WE EXCUSE REVENGE? WE ARE IN AGONY, REVENGE MIGHT BE JUSTIFIED?

REVENGE IS TWO SINS: AND #1 IT IS STEALING FROM GOD AND TAKING WHAT DOES NOT BELONG TO YOU!
