Summary: Here are seven blessings of the Christian life. I'm sure you could possibly find more in this chapter. Disclaimer: I did borrow a part of the this message from one similar preached by D.L. Moody entitled "Seven Things a Believer Has According To Philippians 4".
Seven Blessings of the Christians life
Philippians 4
Intro.
There is no doubt that there are many blessing to knowing and
walking with the Lord.
The world (and the devil) would try to convince you that you
are missing out by not obeying the “lusts of the flesh”
Many refuse to receive Christ as their Saviour because they
are afraid of “missing out”.
Certainly our greatest blessing if the forgiveness of sin and a
home in Heaven.
In Philippians four, Paul gives us seven blessings for the
believer.
I. The Privilege of Prayer. Vs. 6
A. All through Scripture God invites us to pray.
1. To call unto Him in every situation.
2. To give Him praise and thanksgiving - “with thanksgiving”
B. “Be careful for nothing” means that we are NOT to worry.
C. Instead, “let our request’s be made known unto God”
1. “Prayer” — implies worship
2. “Supplication” — is a asking
D. You are missing out on one of the greatest blessings of the
Christian life if you are not praying every day.
1. Daniel prayed three times a day. (Daniel 6:10)
2. We are told to “pray without ceasing” (1 Thes. 5:17)
II. The Peace of God. Vs. 7
A. Notice is comes as a result of prayer.
B. Peace was promised to us by Jesus himself.
John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let
not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
C. It is a peace that “passes all understanding”
D. The world will try to find peace in things.
1. Chemicals (drugs and alcohol)
2. Success (Money, fame)
3. Activity (business, sports)
E. The peace that Jesus gives is reserved for the believer.
F. His peace guards (keeps) our hearts and minds.
III. The Presence of God. Vs. 9
A. All through Scripture we are told of God’s presence with us.
Is. 41:10 ¶ Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea,
I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
Matt. 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I
have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even
unto the end of the world. Amen.
B. There is no where you can go that God will not be right there
with you.
C. Try as you may, you cannot runaway from His presence.
IV. The Pleasure of Giving. Vs. 10, 15-16
A. The church at Philippi had helped Paul in the past by
supporting him financially. (Vs. 15-16)
B. They had wanted to support him in the past but were unable.
C. I count it a private and a blessing to support missionaries all
around the world who are preaching the Gospel.
D. I believe God blesses the church that blesses His
missionaries.
E. I believe God blesses the individual that blesses missionaries
as well.
V. A place of contentment. Vs 11-12
A. Wither rich or poor we can be content with what we have.
B. Paul had experienced both.
C. It is a blessing to be content with what God has given us.
Heb. 13:5 Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have:
for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
1. This can be a hard thing….we always want something.
2. It is a blessing to “ be content with such things as ye have.”
VI. The power of Christ to strengthen us. 13
A. Paul was specifically speaking of being full or hungry, to
about and to suffer need.
B. The Lord gives us the strength to endure anything.
C. Note the verse does not say “I can do everything”
D. God will empower us with the strength to do whatever he has
called us to do.
VII. The Promise of God’s provision. Vs. 19
A. God will supply our need.
B. Sometimes, God will even supply or wants.
Psa. 37:4 Delight thyself also in the LORD; and he shall
give thee the desires of thine heart.
C. The supply is “according to His riches in glory”.
D. We must be committed to His will and what HE wants for us.
E. When we realize that God is our supplier, it should make us
thankful. (Vs. 7)

God had richly blessed us.
