Funerals today are often called celebrations of life. While we grieve, we also celebrate the hope that is ours through Christ. As Paul reminds us, we do not “grieve as others who have no hope,” for Jesus’ death and resurrection assures us of eternal life.

I recently saw a sign for a store advertising a grand opening. The store manager boasted of great give-a-ways and all sort of wonderful prizes. However, none of these things compare to what we gain when Heaven opens.
