The citizens of Shechem were apparently in their fields for the purpose of tending their crops, and very probably without weapons of any kind. People could be seen going in and out of the city gate to support those harvesting the grapes. Abimelech slew them.

Chapter 44 Destruction of Shechem [Judges 9.42-9.45] Scripture: Judges 9:42-45 (KJV) 42 And it came to pass on the morrow, that the people went out into the field; and they told Abimelech. 43 And he took the people, and divided them into three companies, and laid wait in the field, and ...read more

In this sermon, the so-called "Kantian wall" is acknowledged as a support rather than a threat to Christianity. There is no human way to know God except through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit has a very special role to play.

(If you have found this sermon helpful, please visit us at www.HeritageRestorationProject.org or www.ChristianWisdom.info) Among the great events of the 18th Century is, of course, the American Revolution. But ask historians and they will tell you that there is still another 18th Century revolution ...read more

  • You Missed The Point

Contributed by Joseph Smith on Jun 23, 2003
    based on 10 ratings

Why do we scold fathers on Father’s Day, when it is often that their children simply miss hearing their counsel. The sons of Josiah ignored their grounding in God’s word and the support of the Temple and misunderstood the value of hard work.

The difference between Mother’s Day and Father’s Day is that we honor our mothers but we scold our fathers. We talk of saintly moms, who wore their fingers to the bone to cook and clean and sow for us. We honor them for their industry, their mother wit, and their prayer life. And that is as it ...read more

In like manner we can enjoy the protection and comfort during the time of trouble when we stay comforted by the presence of “Rock of Ages” which is Jesus Christ. If Christ is for us who can be against us. He is the source of strength and courage.

Contributed by Mark Opperman on Oct 1, 2015
     | 10,116 views

This sermon begins a journey through the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). I’ve begun with the end in mind. If we hear and do what Jesus taught, we will be like the wise person who built on the rock and withstood the storm.

Withstanding the Storms [Show storm video] Matthew 7:24-27 24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not ...read more

It was only a momentary slip of the beasts’ feet, but it was enough to rock the Ark which was on the cart they were pulling. The priest driving the cart reached back to steady the Ark so it wouldn’t fall; but the moment he touched the Ark, he fell dead.

“David and all the house of Israel were celebrating before the LORD, with songs and lyres and harps and tambourines and castanets and cymbals.
