God is omnipresent and omniscient; He sees all things, whether in the light or in the dark. The name El Roi—the God Who Sees—was revealed to Hagar in a moment of distress and despair.

Jesus did not cause a stir when he spoke about the future like prophets of this generation did. He spoke simply in between words describing Jerusalem’s devastation. For Jesus, being able to predict the future was nothing extraordinary.

God responded to her suffering, not her prayer, revealing Himself to her and giving her the assurance that He had seen her affliction. This encounter provided Hagar with strength and the knowledge that she was not alone, but rather seen, known, and understood by God.
