The daughter was alive when Jairus came to Jesus but after some time (when Jesus is with Jairus, and Jesus was coming to their home) the daughter was dead. While being with Jesus, Jairus hears the death of his daughter.

One of the synagogue leaders, named Jairus, came, and when he saw Jesus, he fell at His feet and kept begging Him, “My little daughter is at death’s door.
