Col 3:1-2

Seek- to find out, to enquire, to crave

Affection- to have understanding, to feel , to think

Intro: what’s your focus

1: Table full of items

a) Laptops, mp3’s toys, candy, etc.

b) How many can look at the table of items for 60 seconds and make a list of what they see

c) How many noticed the small cross stuck in the middle of all that stuff

Point: things cam mislead us, they can mess up our focus. As a young Christian your focus has to be keen. For the devil as a roaring lion seeking whom he may devour. 1 Peter 5:8

2: The devil isn’t real

a) The greatest lie Satan ever told was I don’t exist

b) You see he’s seeking too

c) He craves death and destruction

d) Confusion and lies

Point: Christian e wants you to lose your focus give your time and attention to other things. Matt 6:27-34 seek ye the kingdom of God first.

Body: your choice

1: If

a) That’s a really big word

b) If is a loaded word

c) Implies action out of the reader

Point: it’s our choice seek those things which are above. Gal 5:22-23 fruit of the spirit, love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance. If you want your focus to be heaven and getting others there.

2: looking for Jesus

a) We have to surrender our minds and hearts to seeking Jesus in everything

b) Our thinking has to be changed

c) Our affection has to be changed

Point: it’s our choice to look for Jesus, to seek him in every situation, to crave his presence and guidance in our lives. Just as it is everyone’s choice to accept or deny Christ as lord.

Closing: how do you deal with distractions?

1: that small cross on the table

a) You have to focus on the cross

b) V1 Christ sitteth on the right hand of God

c) All the work has been done

d) John 19:30 it is finished, he bowed his head and gave up the ghost

Point: the cross of Calvary is where all the work was done. It’s all a sinner like me needs to get to heaven, focus on what matters. The cross matters…

2: we didn’t earn any of it

a) Anyone who tells you otherwise

b) Gal 1:8-9

c) Any other gospel let him be accursed

d) By grace are ye saved Eph 2:5,8

Point: gifts are free, grace is not earned and heaven can’t be bought. We should seek to see the cross in everything, speak the cross everywhere, and take the cross any time.
