Summary: Once you are saved, nothing can change that.
Security of the Believer
June 8, 2014 Morning Service
Immanuel Baptist Church, Wagoner, OK
Rick Boyne
Message Point: Once you are saved, nothing can change that.
Focus Passage: John 10:27-30
Supplemental Passage: Who will separate us from the love of Christ? Will tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? Just as it is written, "FOR YOUR SAKE WE ARE BEING PUT TO DEATH ALL DAY LONG; WE WERE CONSIDERED AS SHEEP TO BE SLAUGHTERED." But in all these things we overwhelmingly conquer through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35-39)
Introduction: The problem of security of the believer comes because people walk in the flesh and not in the spirit, or that they have had some sort of emotional religious experience and were never truly regenerated.
I. Once Saved, Always Saved
a. This is an oft criticized phrase used against Baptists. To some, it implies an “easy view of salvation.” However, used properly, it is an utterly severe and narrow view of salvation.
b. There are some who have walked an aisle, or shook a pastor’s hand, or repeated a little prayer, or was dunked in a baptistery who have not yet been saved.
c. If there is no change on the outside, there probably hasn’t been a change in the inside.
d. Once you are saved, there is nothing that can separate you from God.
II. Adopted into God’s Family
a. He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will, (Ephesians 1:5)
b. Man’s law says that an adopted son can never be disowned. God’s law is far superior to man’s law.
c. Once you are an adopted son or daughter, God will never cast you out.
d. See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him. (1 John 3:1)
III. Born Again
a. Jesus answered and said to him, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God." (John 3:3)
b. You cannot un-born yourself.
Application/Invitation: God loves you and accepts you the way you are, but He loves you enough to not let you stay that way.
