I. He’s Permanent:

“but Jesus holds his priesthood permanently, because He continues forever.” Hebrews? ?7:24? ?????

The Old Testament priesthood was only temporary. “The former priests were many in number” BUT that is because a man could only serve until he died. But Jesus has already gone through death and He will never die again, Revelations 1:18 “I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore.”??

And because He is Permanent YOU are permanently saved from your sins. When we read this passage and hear the word “uttermost” the emphasis of that word is that Jesus has the ability “to save us to the end.” In other words, when Jesus saves a soul, He does it completely and He does it permanently – John 10:28 “And I give MY SHEP eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.” ILLS: In the 80’s at Purdue University in shared bathroom at McCutcheon Hall we could not afford the Jheri Curl Kit that Ice Cube was promoting so we bought some cheap relaxer called The Perm! We got some Vaseline for our forehead and ears and we combed in that Permanent and waited for the “burn!” Our hair stayed straight only for a little while but in just a few weeks what we called a Perm was really a Temp. Time showed us that what we thought was a Permanent was only a Temporary! This world is offering a lot of stuff labeled Permanent but I have found out that it’s only Temporary! But Jesus says in John 6:47 “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” He will save you to the uttermost! Because His salvation is complete, it is perfect, and yes it is permanent!

II. He’s Preeminent:

“For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, [because He is] holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens.” Hebrews? ?7:26?

He is Holy…Isaiah said in the year that King Uzziah died he saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train of his robe filled the temple. Above him stood the seraphim… And one called to another and said, "Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory!"

He is Innocent…Peter said that Jesus committed no sin, neither was deceit found in his mouth. When He was scorned, He did not scorn in return; when He suffered, He didn’t threaten, but continued trusting His Righteous Father.

He is Unstained…Peter teaches that we were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold… but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.

He is Separated…Hebrews says that we have a high priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses, EVEN One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet He has NEVER sinned.

He is Exalted… Paul said to the Philippians that God has highly exalted Him and bestowed on Him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

The Bible says, “Consequently, He is able to save to the uttermost...” Not only does Jesus possess the power to provide salvation, but the Bible says here that He is able to save to the “uttermost.” This is a precious word! It means, “Completely, perfectly, and utterly.” When God saves a soul from sin, He does it perfectly; He does it completely; and He does it utterly. So when you are “SAVED TO THE UTTERMOST” You are saved completely from your sins. All your sins, every single one, have been washed away through the precious blood of Jesus – 1 John 1:7. The Old Testament priest could save no one. Our text today tells us that Jesus is "able to save to the uttermost". He has power that no earthly priest can ever have. “He is able…” He has the power, the ability to save your soul! Jesus Christ has the power to invade your life and break the chains that hold you bound in your sins. He has the power to affect your eternal freedom here and now. He is able to set you free, John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” He can save anybody, anywhere, anytime, from any sin, John 6:37. He has the power to save because He paid the price to save. You are saved from the power of your sins. Romans 6:6-14 tells us plainly that we died with Jesus and have been raised to a new life in Him. As a result, He has forever broken the bondage of our sins and set us free from their power.
