Save Me (Psalm 6)
Contributed by I. Grant Spong on Jan 7, 2026 (message contributor)
Summary: Who can save us?
Do we pray and wait patiently on God? Do we boldly face our enemies, knowing that with God, in the end we win? Let’s look at Psalm 6.
When we are in trouble do we pray for God’s grace and healing?
O Lord, rebuke me not in your anger, nor discipline me in your wrath. Be gracious to me, O Lord, for I am languishing; heal me, O Lord, for my bones are troubled. My soul also is greatly troubled. But you, O Lord—how long? (Ps 6:1-3 ESV)
When we are in danger of dying, do we ask God to rescue us in His faithful love?
Turn, Lord! Rescue me; save me because of Your faithful love. For there is no remembrance of You in death; who can thank You in Sheol [the grave]? (Ps 6:4-5 HCSB)
Have we ever been in such dire straits that tears flowed and our eyes were red?
I am weary from my groaning. Every night my couch is drenched with tears, my bed is soaked through. My eyesight has faded because of grief, it has dimmed because of all my enemies. (Ps 6:6-7 ISV)
Do we tell our enemies to leave, because God has received our prayer?
Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the Lord hath heard the voice of my weeping. The Lord hath heard my supplication; the Lord will receive my prayer. Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly. (Ps 6:8-9 KJV)
Though some Christians believe as David that there is no remembrance of God in death, do the majority believe that later scriptures reveal a consciousness between death and the resurrection?
Now it happened that the poor man died and was carried away by the angels to Abraham’s bosom, and the rich man also died and was buried. And in Hades he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far away and Lazarus in his bosom. (Luke 16:22-23 LSB)
Did Jesus quote this Psalm in discussing those who shout Lord, Lord, but do not do the will of our Father who is in heaven?
And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; leave Me, you who practice lawlessness.’ (Mat 7:23 NASB)
Do we pray and wait patiently on God? Do we boldly face our enemies, knowing that with God, in the end we win? You decide!
