"You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it useful again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.

The Value of Salt

 Salt gives flavor

 Makes foods come “alive”

 Salt preserves

 Prevents spoilage

Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other."

 Counteracting the moral decay of society

 Speaking out when necessary

 Taking a stand for what is right

Flavorless Salt

 Many blend in to avoid the cost of taking a stand

 Easier to be quiet

 Many are unwilling to make the sacrifice

 Pride is in the driver’s seat

 Many are unwilling to make a commitment

 Jesus does not have Lordship in their lives

Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)

You are the light of the world—like a city on a mountain, glowing in the night for all to see. [15] Don’t hide your light under a basket! Instead, put it on a stand and let it shine for all. [16] In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father.

The Purpose of Light

 Illuminate the darkness

 Revealing what is hidden

 Revealing obstacles

 Giving life

City Lights

 Can be seen for a great distance

 Reveal life

 Unmistakable

 Unmovable

Hiding The Light

 Remaining quiet when we should speak

 Going along with the crowd

 Denying the light

 Letting sin dim our light

 Not explaining our light to others

 Ignoring the needs of others

Letting Your Light Shine

 Speak up

 Be nice

 Love even when it is tough

 Give God credit
