Safeguards For Your Soul Series

Summary: Remember how you get here and guard what you have received.
My response is this - we do not get to this point overnight. We don’t turn cold overnight. It is an accumulation of neglects over time. A little compromise here, a small disobedience there. Small dosages of neglect over time brings you down.
The remedy? Do the right thing, a small step at a time. Take small little steps in the right direction, and God will bring you to where He wants you to be.
We don’t turn cold suddenly, and we won’t get out of the mess overnight too. Begin each day by choosing to honour Him, spend time with Him, and read His Word, a little at a time, a step at a time.
Joshua says, CHOOSE for yourselves THIS DAY whom you will serve. Make that decision, and then follow it up with hundreds of small, little choices in the right direction. Every day you do it afresh. It’s the nitty-gritty choices you make every day that turns you into WHO you are today.
Joshua challenges the people to make a decision NOW – this day! When tomorrow comes, it will be still THIS DAY. Every day we choose to do the right thing.
• Frankly, I’m not too concerned about what decision you made 5 years ago (when you on fire for the Lord), if today you have lost your love for God.
• Decide now. Do the right thing. Heed God’s Word. Obey Him. Worship Him.
It’s a choice you have to make. No one can do it for you. It won’t happen by proxy. It won’t happen by chance.
• You are as blessed as you want it to be, but you have to make that choice yourself. It’s a personal decision. That choice is in your hand.
Joshua set them a good example. He modelled a life of faith in God, but he cannot decide for them.
• Why was he able to say on behalf of his family? He says, “But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” (24:15)
• I believe he says it because he knows them well enough. As the head of the household, he taught them and knew their commitment to the same God he worshipped.
Faith cannot be inherited. We can only model it to the next generation.
• We set them a good example, we model the faith we have in God, we provide them the best environment for faith to grow, and then PRAY for God’s mercy and grace to come upon them.
